| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Hi Skully, Have you had any issues with your memory speed when populating all six slots? I am thinking about getting another 6 Gb but Corsair says I may have to slow it down some with all six slots populated.

I've ran Corsair all six slots, populated with 9gig no problem. MushKin 12gig running a default 6-7-6-18 with some oc'ing no problem. I bet you'll be fine with 12gig and no slow down.

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Addendum... to above:Received N-Bridge Swiftech block today was all evening tearing rig down. I now have the N-bridge unwater.. Temps before N-block was 45C on oc'ed cpu. Now it 37-38C a 7-8C difference in temps...nice! I now have cpu, N-bridge, and video card, in a water loop. Adding the N-bridge to the loop caused no gain it temps on cpu or video card. I have a triple rad with 6 120mm fans, Three in front, and 3 to the other side, a push/pull deal. I most likely could add another water cooled video card without a problem.

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Hi all, I have been using the included X-Fi riser card that comes with the RE-II. Now that I have loaded the comercial version of Win 7 I am actually going to put this rig to work. I want to upgrade the sound card. In the opinion of this august group what is the best sound card for this Mobo considering in the following order: 1. Quality of sound 2. Being able to fit 3. Compatability with the RE-II and Win 7 I am looking at the ASUS Xonar series, anyone have any experience with them?

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** SS, Dan, et al, New to forum, new to OC, but not new to self-built PCs. Over the years I have loved being hands-on... now I get to share it with my youngest son who has really taken to computers. I have read this thread from beginning to end, and WOW, what a ride you have shared... enjoyed reading and viewing the progress! We're considering the following and wanted to know your thoughts. This is a from-scratch build. Goals: games, home video/pics editing, and max potential from connecting it to 1 x 55" (LAN ready) HDTV, and 2 x HP L2445w. this is for the hoppy / love of building the machine together, OC tinkering. Project is like a fine model... design and research is as enjoyable as the hands-on, well almost. Case: Corsair Obsidian 800D Chassis - input please MoBo: Rampage II Extreme CPU: i7-920 (bang for the buck) Memory: Corsair Dominator 6GB PC3-14400 1800MHz Video: dual Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 1GB DDR5 (CrossfireX) PSU: Corsair HX1000W SSD: dual Corsair Extreme Series 64GB (RAID-0) - Boot, OS, test apps HDD: dual WD Caviar Black 1TB (RAID-0) - applications, games BU: Calvalry eSATA 2TB, one-button Cooling: considered full H20 system, but virgin in this space. Since from-scratch build this would play into case decision and learning something new. -- looking at a hybrid (Hydro Series H50 CPU Cooler with larger fans to replace case defaults and adding fans to exhaust out case top. Then reverse rear fan as intake to add air flow over mid-case. Audio: most likely stay with base and output to AV system and Bose Acoustimass 15 II speaker system That's where I'm at for now... interested to read your thoughts. Thanks in advance. ![]() Your pick of the Corsair Obsidian 800D is a good one in mho. I like the PSU on the bottom and the great air flow. Also the built in air for a triple radiator if using water cooling. The 800D appears like a great all around case. Here is a Youtube demo of the 800D. YouTube - Corsair Obsidian Series 800D Chassis - PC Perspective Rampage II Extreme one of the best mobo out there.. The CPU: i7-920 again right on, I run my i7-920 @ 4200mhz 24/7. Memory Corsair Dominator will play nice with the R2E. SSD fast, but I'd chose OCZ as they have great support.. I've owned 3x120 OCZ ssd's for a few months now, OCZ has been great with support. ATI 5870 great card and CrossFire fun, I have the ATI 5870 and enyjoy it. I most likely will go CrossFire in time. PSU great size 1000watt. Your HD's all look like good choices.. Now in regards to water cooling. I'd go Swiftech parts with triple radiator, I've used Swiftech and DangerDen for years with no problems. If ya run into problems putting together a water rig. Just drop in here and we'll help ya get on the right track. As for audio and speakers, I can only say, if you like then thats what counts. All in all except for the water cooling you have made some great choises..

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Hey Dan, I just run the X-Fi for sound. So can't help ya with sound. I have a high end sound system in the same room as my PC. So I have great music in the back ground, as I compute on me computer.. X-Fi works ok in games for me, so I'm happy.

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Thanks SS for the warm welcome and feedback. I'll give the water cooling some more thought - even more so knowing I have you and this thread to call on for help. Will be working the design and playing with the budget for the project for a while yet, but was thinking of trying to kick this off prior to the holidays. Also, I'll look at the SSDs you mentioned as part of the research. Cheers. -J |

And for any help you may need with oc'ing the R2E mobo. When ya get the time take a look at OCZ SSD support forum. Here's the link.....http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/fo...play.php?f=237 The planning, research, and building of a new rig, is fun....

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Hey SS, Just checking back in after rebuilding my work laptop... such a pain some times - Windows. Built two desktops for older children (out on their own). Stepping up to the 'big build' In those I used the Asus P5Q Pro Turbo, Corsiar 2x4096-6400 DDR2, Core2 Q8200, Radeon 4670, 2 x WD .5TB drives, all packaged nicely in a NZXT Alpha case. Had some fun getting to know the Asus 'toys' (mobo apps) and building two clean well balanced (budget vs. performance) machines. like I said, just checking in after getting laptop back on line.. take care. -Jay |
