Re: *** rampage ii extreme ***

The X58 chipset supposedly will run 32nm CPU's coming out in a year. This is the time I might update (Intel Tick) to Westmere/Gulftown. The news on this chip is very good, a lot better than even Penryn was.

Re: *** rampage ii extreme ***

A year, Hmmm, perhaps even more reason for me to use the 920 and not wait for the 975.
I seem to be building on the Tock rather than the Tick these last few builds.

I am very impressed with the construction of this board. I want to see how it runs. It is sitting here looking at me just asking for a CPU and Memory.
Thanks for all the updates. I bet this will become a vary populat thread for R-II-E users.
I agree with you, it sounds like a psu issue. Mines a 1000w X3 ULTRA. Way back when, I noticed store built PC's used the red fiber gaskets under mobo screws. So I've always done likewise. Mobo viberation can be a problem. The gaskets help hold tight the screws. Some old time heatsink fans could really
viberate a mobo. I'm just getting into the Asus utilities. They look very impressive. Out with ye ole multimeter.....

Sounds right to me. And of course, Skully, with just one fiber washer, between the screw and the board, but none on the other side between the board and the mounting post, you haven't been isolating the board's ground plane from the case anyway.

(No loose screws)

Yup, the mounting hole is plated through so the combination of the shock absorbing washers and still getting a good ground from the screw head should work fine.
Please let us know what you find using a multimeter Vs the BIOS readings. I intend to do that also.
If one of you get a chance, take a look here Asus rampage ii extreme Blue 2 pin wire - techPowerUp! Forums
and see if you know what he is talking about. He has a strange wire that did not come with my R-II Ex.
Anyway, I am off to watch Am Idol with my wife

Re: *** rampage ii extreme ***

I understand that the new Corsair Dominator GT memory will be available in limited supply in the next few days. I am trying to decide between speed and latency.
I tend to think that I will give up a little speed for better latency. Here are the two products. What are your comments guys?
https://shop.corsair.com/store/item_view.aspx?id=857944

https://shop.corsair.com/store/item_view.aspx?id=833269

of course I could go for both and pay $100 more but I just do not think it is worth it. Here is the link for the lower latency and higher speed dimms.

Dan --

Save the $100, and flip a coin to choose between the other two:

Re: *** rampage ii extreme ***

Ok, I'm now into playing with the multimeter. A good thing is my cube case, the mobo lays horizontal and the top is removable. Makes it nice to use as a work station of sorts. The R-2ex has 8 places to test 8 different mobo voltages. I've just started to learn the software, that is also connected to the voltmeter readouts/slots. Asus gives 2 Probilt cables that plugs into the slots. You plug your multi into these. I'm adding some pic's and hope ya can see them. This mobo is very close with the voltages set in the bios. I set the OPI/DRAM @ 1.51250/bios, my VM reads 1.549 very close. Being an avid OC'er this is a dream mobo for me. No its not perfect. If your not an oc'er,
this may not be the mobo for you. For me its fun-ya.....
