| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Thanks, you know that's what has me concerned is temps. Your air Temps, the i7 920 puts out 130 watts of heat. Along with poor to fair heatspreaders, it makes for a hot running i7 920. I've been reading in different hardware forums, and a lot of people are having trouble air cooling i7 cpu's. If a guy has to use air for cooling. There seems a few things needed to be looked at. First, good air flow in your box. Seond the best air cooler ya can get. Third mating surfaces, maybe lapping if needed. I just thought I throw this out there for ya to ruminate on....Yeah I'm quite happy I have water cooling with the 920. In fact everything is running great, with great temps. I never dreamed I'd ever be able to run 4200mhz oc 24/7 with great temps. I'm more then well pleased, to say the least....... ![]()

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Sir Skully,is it hard or easy to watercool? I've seen some rigs that are watercooled(just pics or videos on the interweb)and wonder if it's a hassle or not. I've got the stock intel cooler on my cpu and I know I could do better.

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** The temps are what have me concerned also. I have the new 9900 coming in tomorrow along with a tube of new AS 5. The air flow in the case is good, I am presently running with the side removed, the room is cool and the ambient temp is 70 F. The heat pipes on the 9900 are cool. I have plenty of room to install a liquid cool set up and I will consider doing so if this new 9900 does no better.

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** The initial set can be a little involved. And some H2o setups are more complex then others. Say at first you just wanted a simple water block cooled cpu. It would be quite easy. Just hose, clamps, water pump, water block, radiator, for a closed system. Some like to use a reservoir, that would another add on. Best to start simple and see if ya like H2o cooling. If ya decide to give it a try, just give a yell and I'll help ya out. I've been water cooling for years.

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** I can not get higher than 3.6 without a BSOD. I couple of questions SS 1. I can not change the CPU Ratio setting from Auto. You suggest I use 21 but I can not change it. Perhaps this is why I can not get higher than 3.6?? Any idea why this is locked out for me? 2. I do not have 1st Information at Auto instead I set it to 7 8 7 20 which is my memory spec, the 2nd informationm and 3rd information are set to auto. Is this correct? My new cooler will be in tomorrow. If the temps are still the same I may lap the CPU HS. Even though I am considering goping to WC I think I should be able to get lower than 48 C @ 3.3Ghz with almost no load wouldent you think? ![]()

When you find your sweet spot oc, then you may want to think about manual memory settings. But till then I'd use auto.

That did it, 3.464 Ghz ![]() Temps are up a little, 50 54 49 55 but we know I still have that issue. Oh well, that is tomorrows problem. The plan for that is: 1. New 9900 installed with new AS5 2. If that does not do it, check and measure flatness of CPU HS 3. Consider laping, other air cooler or just go liquid
