Re: Rampage II Extreme or P6T6 WS Revolution

Ok then. Parts List

Motherboard - Asus Rampage II Extreme
Processor - i7 920
Memory - Kingston 1866mhz DDR3 - Image CAS 9-9-9-27 Ifi remember right
Graphics - Asus GTX 275 896MB
PSU - Antec True Power 750w
Hard Drives - 2 x 80GB Seagate Barracudas in raid 0 for main (waiting for SSDs to drop), 2 x 1.5tb Western Digital Caviar Green in raid 0 for media.
Monitor - NEC 26" LCD 1920x1200
Case - Lian-Li V1100 (love this case)

Think thats about it. Trying to decide on which cooler to go with. Leaning towards a Thermaltake True 120 or the Noctua NH-U12P SE1266

I'm reading some good things about the Noctua's. I like silence haha. Think I'll go air cooling and see how I do overclocking wise, then look into WC.

I've read some good stuff on the True 120 and the other cooler I don't know. But water is better......

Re: Rampage II Extreme or P6T6 WS Revolution

Got my processor today! Seems its a C0 stepping ... is there a major difference between C0 and D0 in terms of overclocks?

Re: Rampage II Extreme or P6T6 WS Revolution

hey shaz )

Congrats on the R2E setup looks like some really nice parts you've got there.

The D0 stepping chips just take less voltage to run at the same clock as the C0 stepping. thus the D0 chips will run cooler and probably overclock a tad higher then the C0 chips.

keep us informed on how things are going with the new rig

I have my 920 running 24/7 at 4.0Ghtz on air and have not had a single issue with stability. my temps under full load are a bit high, but my system is not at full load in normal use. so I can live with my temps for now!
eventually I plan on going H2o and trying to push the oc up more. but that's a future progect I'm afraid.

Re: Rampage II Extreme or P6T6 WS Revolution

I have the Noctua NH-U12P SE1266. I run the fans full speed at about 1350 RPM. But, I like a little white noise. 34C to 68C

000ps, testing new bios w/ Prime95. 70C, I better turn on the AC and maybe clean some fan holes. No throttle down though.

Re: Rampage II Extreme or P6T6 WS Revolution

I keep Enabled the CPU TM Function. Even hotter with all my 12GBs maxed out when I add LinX. Still no No throttle down, crash .... I better add a run of 3DMark06 tooo.

Re: Rampage II Extreme or P6T6 WS Revolution

dunno why I didnt notice this thread before... anyway congrats on the R2E based system, I think its a top board.
I'm running a WS Evolution as my gaming/internet/editing rig (X48) and if its anything to go by then this series of boards are rock solid.

I dont know about the R2E but the only thing the Revolution offered above usual configuration would be the 3-way SLI with 3 full X16 PCI express slots and a SAS controller.

Re: Rampage II Extreme or P6T6 WS Revolution

Thanks for the feedback folks

Nearly got all my bits. Only thing I'm waiting on are the 6gb Kingston HyperX 1866mhz memory.

Will hopefully start building the system tomorrow (Saturday) and my cpu cooler should arrive as well as some longer sata cables so I can tuck them away .

I shall take pictures of my room full of boxes of goodies! hah!

Re: Rampage II Extreme or P6T6 WS Revolution

I picked these up last night

Motherboard Rampage II Extreme
Core i7 920 - CO stepping
Corsair Dominator TR3X6G1600C8D 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 with X58 airflow fan

Second hand but in excellent condition ( a saving of over $200 ). Certainly looking forward to my jump too Socket 1366. the chip is a good clocker, can do 3.8ghz very easily with only around 1.32 vcore. So I should be back with more news once I have her up and running.
