| USB2 problem I'm having a frustrating problem that I can't figure out. I'm running an Asus P5Q-E motherboard, and it's supposed to have nothing but USB2 ports. Yet, whenever I plug anything in (iPhone, flash drive, etc), I get the "This device could perform faster if you plug it into a USB2 port" message, and the speeds the device runs at sure seems more like USB1 than USB2. (I've used the same devices on other systems and seen a noticeable difference.) Anybody know how to make sure USB2 is running on this motherboard, or what the problem is? I've tried the following: 1) Update motherboard drivers (both the latest ones from the Asus site, and the Intel ones) 2) Update BIOS 3) Installed all Windows updates 4) Checked the BIOS to make sure USB2 was enabled - it is. 5) Installed a brand new Corsair 850W power supply to replace a 400W unit I was borrowing. I just wanted to see if anyone had an idea what's going on here. I'm running the Windows 7 RC (the original RC release, not any of the leaked versions). As always, nothing's overclocked, and the only things I have plugged into the USB ports on a full-time basis are a Microsoft optical mouse, a low-end Logitech keyboard, and an HP DeskJet 4135 printer. Any thoughts are welcomed. I'm baffled. At this point I'm thinking bad board, but I just wanted to get some more input. |

| Re: USB2 problem For $15 you can get a pci usb2 add on card and install in a open pci slot and try it and see if that works. And if it does you know your usb controller on the MB is bad and it won't cost much! Plus it just gives you more usb ports and you can use it in any other MB!

| Re: USB2 problem I know I've got a USB2 card at work... I'll try it tomorrow. I'm definitely seeing some weird things in Device Manager and SiSoft Sandra - some ports are listed as Hispeed, some are Full Speed. If it is the motherboard, I guess I'll be shopping for a new one. I got this one right after Christmas, and I'd rather not have to deal with RMA'ing it. |

| Re: USB2 problem Update: I put the USB card in the system, plugged in a few devices (iPhone, flash drive, etc), and didn't get the "This device could perform faster message" once. Everything's working faster too. So it looks like I'm on the hunt for a new motherboard. Thanks for the help. |
