3DMark2001Se crashes out to Desktop

Hi,

A7N8X Deluxe w/ 1002 BIOS
ATI Sapphire Atlantis 9700np 128 MB DDR video (stock clocks)
2 x 512 MB Kingston PC2700 RAM
120 GB WD w/8 MB cache
etc etc...
WinXP Pro w/SP1 & all updates with DirectX v9
400 Watt AustinConn (??) PSU

When I try to run 3DMark2001 SE v330 (patched), it starst to benchmark, but it crashe2 back to the desktop. The furthest it has gotten is into test 3 maybe before crashing. I want to compare benchmarks, but can't get it to even run...HAHAHa

It also crashes back for some other games as well.

I have tweaked up the AGP voltage by .1 and may well try to push it up a bit more. CPU & System RAM voltage is default for now.

Any thougths ??

Dave

I would suspect the PSU. I hear those 9700s are some power hungry monsters. I would also wait and see what others that have a similar setup have to say. Is this a new build???

Crashing to desktop can be lots of things

The most common are:

Bad driver version or improper driver installation

Problem with chipset driver

CPU temps too high

Unstable overclock

Crappy RAM

RAM timings set to tight

Not enough vcore (if this happens when youre overclocking)
----------------------------------------------------------

If its just crashing to desktop but not rebooting, I wouldnt worry about the power suply yet. It could be the PSU but Id verify the above stuff first.

==========================
One thing to be certain of, is to test your system with a clean install of the OS using most stable chipset and video drivers installed properly. Video driver or chipset driver residue from previous versions can cause all manner of problems
