Does that mean that the Radeon 9700 Pro is going to reduce down to.... let say, $129USD

Dammnit spookyload, I haven't seen a nVidia fanboy as bad as you for a long time.

What about the nVidia Infinite Loop bug? nVidia driver stability at it's best, eh? As for the so-called mountains of compatability threads, it seems to me that most of them are attributable primarily to AGP compatability problems on the chipset/motherboard/BIOS side - EXACTLY the same as nVidia's AGP 4x problems on Via KT133 boards all those years ago.

As for ATI releasing incremental refreshes - they learned that trick from nVidia...... GF2 Ultra anyone? No core improvements whatsoever, only a speed boost - yet it was barely faster than the GTS, but a crapload more expensive. At least the 9800 has core efficiency improvements over the 9700.

And before you go spouting "PFFFT, ATI fanboy" rhetoric.... I have only ever owned nVidia and 3dfx cards. I have no brand loyalty whatsoever. I choose cards solely on their own merit.

Oh great, NVidia fan(s)/ATI fan(s) this thread should be moved the [HD] forum

On a serious note, I've had NO problems with the Cat drivers from ATI

I know a lot of people on this board don't like HardOCP, but this article is fairly interesting.....

http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NDQ0

It discusses the image quality v performance of the FX 5600/5200. Very damning to say the least, especally considering how much they have pimped nVidia in the past.

Oh that is damning!

I agree with you Beefy. I have been an Nvidia user for years and have had it with the over-hyping of their "cinematic" FX products. What a joke. I foolishly waited for the FX while wanting to upgrade my card and, like almost everyone else, was very disappointed. They can only play their customers for suckers for so long. They have lost a loyal customer.
I am now going to buy a 9700 or 9800 Radeon with in the next few weeks.

Matrox rulez!

I have ATI8500DV, MSI Ti4200 8x, Matrox G400 - so I could care less which is better. I just use the one that works for the purpose at hand.

For TV: ATI8500DV
DVD playback: MSI Ti4200 8x
2D quality, in order of quality: Matrox G400, MSI Ti4200, ATI8500DV. Yes, that is correct my GF4 is better than the 8500DV for 2D-amazing isn't it?
