That seems like a bit of a forcast seeing as the 3.2 drivers aren't even out yet. All you ATI fans better hope they get it right and it doesn't screw your system up like previous drivers did. I have never seen any video card have so many threads that have to do with not being able to get the card to work. If it weren't for that I would probably have bought the 9700 pro last year. I see as many 9700 pro problem threads as there used to be sound blaster live threads.

As for the 9800, I dont see it as much more of an improvement over the 9700 pro. Call me crazy but they are putting out a card that doesn't out preform the 9700pro by much, especially to justify the extra $100. Seems to me like they just threw out a product to topple the FX. That is a pitty. Why not wait and release a new product that will rise far above the 9700pro and the FX. You might not get your market share now, but think of the long term effects it would have toward NVIDIA. They would be scratching their heads and scrambling again.

Both the FX and 9800 seem like just an excuse to put a new product on the market since their 4600 and 9700 are starting to come down in price and they need a new $400 card. This generation of cards will be short lived in my opinion, with the next generation truely showing advances.

Well said

i myself will wait for the r400 and not jump on the beefed up 9700 aka 9800 (r350)..also the r400 will incorporate ddr2 as well as a .013 process on the gpu where as all the 9800pro has to offer is the higher clock, (which most of us can achieve already ocing the 9700) and the 256mb mem onboard which NO game or game in the near future will need.

i dont think its wise to turn out a new super card every 6 months, i am a fan of ati but cmon now most of us just got finished buying our 9700's not too long ago. and if im gonna spend another 400 it will be 400 for the R400...lol

so does this mean the 9700 will be discontinued 6 months after its inception as the 8500 was?
, is market saturation in ati's vocabulary?

spookyload,

Get real, it's not the drivers that are the cause of the problems. It is mostly AGP 8X motherboards using VIA, SIS, and ALI chipsets. It is now known, that VIA admitted to a bug in their chipsets that cause incompatibilities with ATI videocards. The part of the problem, is motherboards that need bios updates, Radeon 9700 Pro's not being hooked up to the powersupply by itself, and other factors including software firewalls causing lockups and stuttering when fastwrites for the card are enabled.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the links Bajo! You keep me up to date...I am very close to either getting the 9800 or the 9700 Pro AIW. I am leaning toward the AIW, I have an Mitsubishi HDTV 52 inch wide screen TV sitting real close by and I would love to see what it would look like on it.

Add to the list the Intel Granite Bay boards for having a bug with 8x.
