Templar... a little bias towards Radeon aren't we...

Seriously, I do agree. I currently have a Radeon 8500 and a Nvidia TI4600. I have never had one issue with either one. Now, let me qualify that statement with this is the FIRST Nvidia card that I haven't had any issues with. I love both and they are both extremly fast.

Good luck...

TRIPPLE LOL How can you call me biased when I don't even say one bad thing about nVidia!?!? *sniffs the fanboy stench*

X = Radeon:

What ever you get make sure it's an X.
Not a very biased statement any more eh ?!

That's just my opinion at the moment!

Given that in every review the Geforce FX 5800 is slower in many benchmarks than the 9700 Pro and it is louder by far while taking up an extra slot in the case.

With the 9800 Pro comming out we can expect to see a further price drop on the 9700 Pro cards. I got mine for $278 at the beginning of the year. The GeforceFX just doesn't provide much justification to go for at $399.

Best suggestion I can give is you may want to hold off for a couple weeks and watch the pricing on the 9700 Pro. The OEM versions of the card (Made by Sapphire and I guess PowerColor it looks like) are the same card last I saw (same memory and gpu used) as the built by ATI.

Talking

was a bit taken back by being called biased when I don't even mention a single negative word towards B and just state I'd prefer A.

This is why I recomend a Radeon.

GeForce4 MX vs. the 8500-9200 series.
The GeForce4 Mx doesn't even have DX8 support, it's a GF2 core!
8500-9200 have full DX 8.1 support.

Ti4200-4800 series vs. 9500-9700 series.
DX8 support vs. full DX9 support on the Radeons, including more speed and visual quality. I had a GF4600 before my current radeon and the visual quality are so much higher on the Radeon that even my wife commented on the TV out when we were watching a movie on TV from the PC.

High end and you have the 9700 -9800 undesputed performance leaders.

This of course based on what you can buy TODAY, not 2 months from now. If you should want wait for something that's coming in the future is another discussion all together.

The day that any one else makes a better vidcard then the current Radeon I'll recomend that card regardless of who produces it!!

They should make "Logics 101" mandatory in high school !

There is no difference really that I have seen. I don't know 100% on the Power Color one, but last time I saw one reviewed it had the same clock speeds as the Sapphire and ATI (325 core 310 mem). Mine is made by Sapphire I believe, though just looking t the card you have to know what to look for to tell the dif between the ATI and it. Also on Pricewatch.com right now there are a couple of places that state Built by ATI on them for a whole dollar more than the PowerColor one.

Though PCPart4less seems to think it is ok to state "New ATI" in the Pricewatch Description then show you a PowerColor card on their web page. Ateck Computers is listing a Built by ATI for $284 + $6 shipping for a bulk version of the card (no spiffy box). I'd say call them before ordering to make sure if it matters to you.

The Prophet 9700 Pro is going to be the higher perfomer. It is the one that matches ATI's 9700 Pro (325 mhz core 310 mhz memory) while the 9700 is going to relate to the ATI 9700 non pro version. It is a slower core speed , it is down to 275 mhz and the memory is clocked down to 270 mhz.
