Best Buy had a $100 dollar instant in sotre rebate this weekend on the 9700 pro's. Not bad for local retail. $299 is about as good as you can find on pricewatch for that matter.

I found a pre-order for the 256 meg 9800 pro. The card was selling for $499 (YIKES!) I don't think the extra 128 megs justifies another $100. I hope this is just some pre-order price gouging. I want to see some comparison benches before I plop down that kind of money.

Post 9800 256MB Preorder

9800 256MB Preorder

I have pre-ordered the 9800 128MB from ATI themselves. That should be a nice upgrade from my vanilla Geforce3! It will be about the same price as I paid for my Geforce3 about 2 years ago.

That's right! USA only baby! The good news is if ATI does not have the 256MB flavour, than nobody such as ENPCwill. I would keep watching ATI's website for the preorder for the 256MB...

I wonder how much of the 256mb will be utilized?

It might be two years or more before any game on the market needs that much video memory.
