DVI output card to use with LCD monitor

I have a GeForce 2 MX 400 with P3 1Ghz CPU and 512 mb memory. I mostly use my computer to surf the web and do some light Word and Excel work. I just bought a Dell 19 inch LCD monitor with DVI input.

I understand DVI would improve picture quality but my GeForce 2 does not support it. What would be a good card to replace it? I would like a card that allows dual monitor as I might add a 2nd monitor in the future.

For gaming purposes, how would this card compare to my GeForce 2? Gaming is not a priority for me but our son uses it occasionally when he is home on weekends.

DVI does look better. Any nvidia card from Gf3 Ti200 and higher should come with a DVI jack as do nearly all ATI cards.

I think you forgot to mention: What card are you comparing to your GeForce2 MX.

He is asking how the card you propose will compare to his current video card.

Sorry if my wording was imprecise. What I meant was: For gaming purposes, how would the card you suggest compare to my GeForce 2?

For instance, how would an ATI 9200 compare to my card? I assume it would be faster. Am I right?

Ohhh now I see!!

LOL Im an idiot

I think youll probably get lots of recommendations in this thread Theres lots of folks around ABX that are really knowledgeable on video cards.

Do you have a certain budiget in mind?

Do you have an intangible loyalty to nVidia over ATI?

Would you be buying online or from a local store? (as in are your chocies limited by availability)

I have not set a budget limit. However, I hate to spend money uselessly. Given my low gaming requirements, I do not feel I need the latest and greatest card on the market.

I do not care wether I get ATI or nVidia. I just want good picture quality with stable drivers.

I will buy locally.

ATI 9500 pro

I have 3 computers and have an Nivdia Ti 4200 and (2) 9500 pro cards. All were middle of the road cards when I bought them and they all work very well for moderate gaming. Would love to have an ATI 9800 Pro. 9500 pro cards are newer and have not had any performance concerns. Not sure these are available anymore - but I am certain there is a new "middle of the road" card that would work just fine. I paid less that $200US for the 9500 Pro's in early 2003.

ATI drivers are a little more of an issue that NVIDIA's - but has not been a significant problem.
