FiringSquad just posted a good preview (link) of the GeForce FX 5800, which includes some comments pertaining to the NVIDIA versus FutureMark’s 3DMark 03 "debate," putting things nicely into perspective. In case you think this might be another "bash the FX" article, the opposite is true. They actually show why the FX should have been better, yet explain why the implementation seemed off. (You will notice that NVIDIA came out with a driver fix--42.67 and up--almost immediately that addressed this issue.)

They also have sound files of the "new" fan setup and they do sound less annoying than the earlier ones. (They are still much louder than the Radeon 9700 Pro.) I would guess that some of us would not be able to hear them above the case fan noise.

The positive aspect to this problem is that Thermaltake has a fanless "heatpipe" solution for all reference NV30 designs.
