| I understand that Sapphire did a good job with their 9700 Pro. You will probably be able to get the most performance out of it since it has a 256-bit memory bus that does not come with the others.** Still, since there is always some risk with a non-ATI card (they have less of a reputation to risk than ATI), choosing the made by ATI 9700 would be a safer choice--if that is important to you. **Edit: My mistake--the 9700 also has a 256-bit memory bus. The difference is that the 9700's chip and memory are clocked slower (275/270 instead of 325/310). Even so, my recommendation would remain the same. Last edited by Cogar; 02-05-2003 at 05:47 PM.. |

| Cogar, thanks for quick replay, well i think the way u did, Built By ATI is the one to go, but sadly we don't have the Built By ATI here (only after few months of their release) even so, the Built By ATI in 9500 Pro and 9700 are OEM version i am a bit confused though, i have Hercules Prophet Radeon which i end up selling it to my mate, still recapture a good money on it though it seems as 9700 Built By is the one i am getting unless i import the Pro version from USA or heck it i might get Sapphire 9700 Pro, it is the 1.3 revision card

| Careful Sir.. I always make bad decisions when I have money burning a whole in my pocket I've owned 3 ATi 'Built by' retails and haven't had a hardware problem yet. Not sure OEM is the right route (underclocked, less warranty?) but have less knowledge of Sapphire, so would vote 9700 OEM. Return policy from where you buy it is just as important too. ddd |

| Sir_JaKoNT|L, The man giving me a run for my money in the Folding at Home project! We both started about the same time, I only have a PIII650 running 24x7 dedicated to folding. Every time one of us sends in a completed WU we seem to swap positions. Anyhow, I think you'de be best served by a true 9700 Pro card. I would suggest the 9700 Pro by Saphire, instead of the 9700 OEM. There is a big difference between the Pro and the non pro in terms of speed. Also the 9500 Pro can be modded to accept the 9700 Pro bios, but I'd hate to see you modify your card, to get the performance from it that you know you could buy straight out with the Saphire 9700 Pro card.
