| How can I up my FPS in game? I have UT3 but cant really play it because my FPS in a menu is between 4 and 8, in a match it's gotten as low as .5 FPS, but averages about 2FPS. I can't post a link to the image I took so I'll have a friend post it after this. My rig consists of the Following: Manufacturer: Dell Computer Corporation Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz Memory: 2046MB RAM Hard Drive: 137 GB Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Sound Card: SoundMAX Digital Audio Speakers/Headphones: Plantronics Headset Keyboard: Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 (2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.080814-1236) Motherboard: Stock (I'm not sure what it is) Computer Case: Dell Dimension 3000 Any help would be appreciated, I'd hate to have found out that I wasted $50 for a game I can't play with the current setup of my computer. |

| Re: How can I up my FPS in game? Well, assuming you're running without AA or AF then I'd have thought you would be getting a little better than that. What resolution are you running at? What are your in game settings? But ultimately, that video card is a major bottleneck of your system and I dont think you can expect much from it.

| Re: How can I up my FPS in game? Well, the video card I currently have was the only one that would work in my computer when I went to the store to buy a new video card, at least that's what the sales Rep said, also i have no idea what AA and AF stand for :S |

| unfortunately you bought a pre-built Dell system...you have limited options...the video card you have is the main culprit but other factors will eventually creep up on you such as your small hard drive, motherboard etc...the fact that you are playing the game at a pretty low resolution with almost no advanced graphics options enabled and still only getting 2 FPS says that you need a major overhaul you might be able to switch out the video card but you probably will void your warranty with Dell...also depends on what kind of motherboard you currently have installed...Dell sells gaming systems with better specs if you are not inclined to build your own system

| Re: How can I up my FPS in game? Sorry bud, but that vid card is the problem. Look for a used card, And at least a Nvidea6800 or ATI 9800 Good luck. I had one for sale but it now in use in a computer that I sometimes use. I'm assuming you have a "AGP" slot for the cards |

| Re: How can I up my FPS in game? "AGP" slot? You mean the slot that the card slides into? Well my motherboard only has two of those slots, and both are in use at the moment, one for the video card i have, the other for the lan card I had to buy because the built in lan port died. |

| Re: How can I up my FPS in game? Ok, a little scouting through the net. I found this, and I'm on the positive side of it working in your Dell rig. Its a BFG GeForce 7600 GS OC / 512MB GDDR2 / AGP 8x at TigerDirect. com Here's a quote of one owner from off of TigerDirect.. "I bought this card to upgrade an old workstation running a Asus A78NX motherboard. I was upgrading from an old BFG GeForce FX5200, and the performance increase is dramatic. The first card that I received was damaged, the new card runs everything I throw at it. I had to upgrade my PSU to run this card, right now its running fine on a 22A +12V, but BFG recommends 25A." Here's the link to the above...BFG GeForce 7600 GS OC 512MB GDDR2 AGP 8x DVI VGA TV Out Video Card BFGR76512GSOC at TigerDirect.com By the by besure to read the user reviews on this video card....

| Re: How can I up my FPS in game? sry about the jargon; AA is "anti aliasing" and AF is "anisotropic filtering" which are both methods implemented in the video card and software to improve the quality of the graphics. The problem is that they cost a lot in terms of resources and so slow down the fps a lot. You need to disable these things in the game video settings which will improve your fps. My gut feeling is that at low quality settings you should see up to about 30 fps on your system which would be enough to play the single player. But the graphics would look fairly basic. If you want to try this just list all the settings in the games menu options and ppl can advise you which ones to adjust, but essentially its turn everything down to the minimum setting.

| Re: How can I up my FPS in game? Do you think spyware/viruses can cause problem too? I've never bumped into the problem because when I notice anything strange on my PC I'd get on it right away. So I'm not sure if it'd affect the FPS of the game, but I assume since they eat up resources they might cause serious problems. By the way, I've never played UT3, but FPS shows fractions ... that's kinda weird lol, or maybe because I rarely check FPS on ... well, FPS games. |

| Re: How can I up my FPS in game? Sure, of course, but I gave him a fps target of about 30fps for his card and resolution at low quality so he can check if he's there already or not without trying to blindly optimise the system first. If he couldnt achieve 30 straight up then I'd be telling him to check the system for unwanted processes such as you mentioned.
