Long boot-up time

Hi,
Im looking for some advice, I just put in a Gainward GeforceFX 5900 golden sample.

When I boot up, it seems to take forever, I mean like 5-10 min to go into Windows. Once there everything seems to run very slowly, Opening webpages, opening any programs it seems to take forever.

Each time I start the computer it says "Update ESCD Successfully"
and sits there for around 10 min, as I said.

It has only started doing this since I have put in the new card, Do I need to make any changes in the BIOS? or jumper settings?
the only thing I have done is take out the old Geforce 3 and put in the new card.

Do you have any other problems? Image corruption, random lockups?

I'm just asking because my Gainward 5900 ultra GS just bit the dust hard... and I get all of the above. Waiting on an RMA. I can't think of any reason your card (if it's the cards fault) should be acting like that.

Did you do a complete uninstall of your old adaptor drivers? And plug/play is still enabled in bios? Everything looks ok in device manager?

Try the above and try another driver off the Nvidia site.
Here are some helpful utilities.

Good luck.

Edit: May want to start out by resetting the bios to default to make it easy. But don't forget to enable/disable any peripherals you added or deleted to the original configuration.

defrag your hd, reinstall windows, or even do the dreaded reformat.

Sometimes my Xp installations get really slow & messed up & I end up having to reinstall.

"Update ESCD Successfully"

That's bad. . . that's only supposed to show up once after a hardware change, not every time. It's like Windows is continually re-finding your card. . . I recommend going to the control panel, uninstalling the drivers, saying yes to reboot, reboot into safe mode, decline automatic driver install if presented, using Driver Cleaner 2.0 from Driverheaven.net to remove all traces of the Detonator, rebooting, then installing clean.

Thanks everyone for the advice, I will try out what you have suggested and post the results.

In 2D I get no image corruption, but in BF1942 I get loads of graphic errors lines flashing everywhere.

I will remove the drivers from Windows and then do a new install of them, to be honest I didnt do that, just swapped out the old card and put in the new one, seeing it's still the family of cards I didnt think I needed to. Anyway if that doesnt help, I will then do a format and re-install everything.

After cleaning the driver out with the driver utility>

http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner/

And checking the registry for anything that looks related to the Nvidia card and deleting it>

http://www.webmasterfree.com/regcleaner.html

Before you go for a reformat, change your battery and boot a couple of times.

And thanks for stopping back and letting us know how it's going

Thanks for the links,
I deleted any trace of Nvidia drivers and dropped to Safe mode and ran the reg tool, and then deleted anything that was needed there.

I went back into XP and I got a default res of 640x 480 I think it was, but then it never picked up I had a new device installed.
All of a sudden the monitor went click, then Black and came back with some really weird things happening, It was like a TV set that was not turned in, rolling lines and such. Then when I moved the mouse the screen where the mouse was turned white.

Anyway I though stuff this, backed up all my important stuff ( which was a take in it's self) the way the screen was.

Did a total format and re-installed and all the problems went away, Fast boot-up, no slow down in WinXp.

Just wanted to say thanks for all your help and advice.

Keep an eye on that card, don't let the RMA period run out on you. . . still sounds like it might be a hardware gremlin. :\
