Radeon 9700 Pro modded to 9800?

I thought I saw something about this awhile back how to make a 9700 a 9800 with a simple software/driver patch?

If anybody here has done this, was there a performance increase?

And how did you do it?

The reason I ask is because I think I might pick one up here soon.

hey, do a search over at www.rage3d.com. use the moded .sys file (can't remember the exact file name) - good results, when I did it had a 200 point jump in 3dmark03. If I remember correctly the cat 3.4's are supposed to give a similar perf jump, they should be out shortly as well.

the results are imminently increased but what i hate was that i need Cat 3.2 slimlined with the hacked driver and 3.2 ain't doing very well in certain games like Splinter Cell where i have my AA and ANI max, will generate too much lights on certain scene and CS always gave a blank screen when u try to go into main menu during gameplay

so yeh i got back to my stock again, gotta love ATI
