Radeon HD 4870-1gig GDDR5

I just bought a Diamond Radeon HD 4870 the one with a 1gig of GDDR5 memory. Also ordered a Dangerden water block to go with it. It's quite a beast, I've been playing Crysis again. Playing on high settings, haven't tried the very high settings yet. Be glad to get the Dangerden water block, its a full cover block to cool this puppy down. So far I really like this card. I've got a lot more playing around to do.........

Re: Radeon HD 4870-1gig GDDR5

Hey trav thanks, DangerDen full cover water block coming in this coming Friday. It will sure make a nice difference. As it did with my 8800GTX quiet and cool. The block's base is all copper not sure of top cover. I fired up Ortho, Prime95, set Crysis on Very High, and was able to play it, but sure not smooth........... Its a beast..... it handles Crysis by its self on very
high really smooth. You have a great card there also, Radeon HD3870X2 OverClocked Edition...enjoy!

Well ... the choice is either acetal if you want it as water tight as possible or acrylic if you want to watch the water flow.

Re: Radeon HD 4870-1gig GDDR5

Hey trav, I try to buy all my water parts from the USA. DangerDen and MountainMods are great Company's. I've bought from for years, always ship next day. Great parts. DangerDen doesn't make a seethrough top. Here's a link to the one I ordered. Danger*Den*::*Water*Blocks... Same page has a pic of my old 8800GTX block. I was going to use my old card 8800GTX for my wife's rig. But its to moch of a card for her. As she just surf's and e-mails. I think I'll put it up for sale with water block or without. I have put the fan /cooler back on, looks like a new card as I didn't use it much.

Re: Radeon HD 4870-1gig GDDR5

Ive had this card for about a month now, It really is a beast! Got this on my vista64 and it has run flawlessly. You might want to read up on Catalyst 8.12 before you update, lots of peeps have been having driver problems with em on various forums. I'm still using 8.11 with no probs. Oh and enjoy the card!

Hey Skully!

American. Hmmmmm. Here's links to PerformancePC here in FL and FrozenCPU.

EK blocks are currently considered the best (except for the CPU block where Fuzion outperforms). EK blocks are designed and built in Europe but the American companies selling them do make money. The extra heat transfer area and increased water flow created by the internal wave channel design does make a significant difference in the cooling capability of the block.

As far as the acrylic clear covers vs the acetal black covers go: there is no breathing loss of coolant with the acetal but you can't see inside; with the clear acrylic you can see inside if there are any air pockets trapped inside but then just add water if needed from the increased breathing of the acrylic material (once every year or two maybe?).

Water Blocks - GPU : Performance-PCs.com, ... sleeve it and they will come

Water Blocks VGA - Card Specific - ATI | Page 1 | Sort By: Product Title A-Z - FrozenCPU.com

BTW, I, and a few other Buds I know, buy parts from PerformancePC. Shipping from PerformancePC has always been equal or better than NewEgg.

Yeah EK blocks look great, but DangerDen already shipped out. Thanks for the links. I may have pulled the trigger a wee to quick. But I was happy with my last DangerDen block.

Nice setup Skully, congrats! Man, I hope I have more income next year - I really miss liquid cooling There are some nice non-conductive coolants out there now that would ease my mind a bit more than when I ran H2O.

THANKS! Hey ole water dog buddy. I remember the old days when you, me, Ozzie. and a few others would really get into water cooling. It was a fun time. Yeah I know use a product called MCT-5. It most likely dosen't have a drop of water in it. Now its really mostly chemical cooling. I hope you do start grow into a better financial state. This whole country is in a economic sewer. But anywho I wish ya well my friend......
