Sapphire Radeon 5850

Finally came today. Installed and looking good!

Looks like the included catalyst suite is 9.8. I've downloaded 9.10 but won't install until tomorrow at the earliest. This weekend I'll try the GPU folding client.

Woohoo! I'm exited! It may not be two 5870s in crossfire (I'm jealous Skully!) but it's a leap up from what I had.

Re: Sapphire Radeon 5850

I don't have any of the benchmarking software yet but I'll do something about that this weekend too.

In the meantime my UPS is reporting less consumption than with my old x1950 Pro. I wasn't expecting that.

I had a HIS card/5870 and a Diamond card/5870 in crossfire.
Well the HIS card went bad on me, so I returned it for a refund.
It had a 30 day return on it, so now I'm running one Diamond 5870 card.
I have it with a full water cover block/Dangerden.
I think I'll wait awhile before I get another.
It never made any difference in benches at all.
And I don't think I'll notice a loss in games.
I have the one Diamond card fully oc'ed @ 900/1300 and temps are 23/24c @ idle.
I haven't fully stressed it yet, but a 57% use of GPU is around 33/34c
The card runs great fully oc'ed.......

Re: Sapphire Radeon 5850

I tried to install the GPU2 folding client this morning without success. I didn't have time to spend investigating the issue but the error message suggested I needed a newer driver. <sigh>

I was trying to use the Vista console version. Skully have you had any success with folding on the 5870?

I would download the 9.9 or the 9.10 drivers and install them. Let it install the FAH client and go from there. That is what I do and have no problems.

Higher performance, lower power consumption. That's great to hear.
I wish ATI and NVidia would make their top line cards on a 9.5 in. or shorter PCB. That is the longest that will fit in any of my cases. After the early 9800GTX+ and 4850, they're all 10.5 in. or longer.

Bad news. Installed the 9.10 CCC & drivers and still can't install GPU client.

This one certainly was a challenge to fit. I had to relocate a hard drive to another cage. And even then it was a close thing.
