| About 6 months ago, I had what I believed to be a cpu failure due to overheating. My CPU fan had failed and my system started giving me a CPU failure message. My previous cpu was an AMD 3500 (newcastle). I recently purchased an AMD 3800 single core (venice) as a replacement. I've properly installed the new cpu and I'm unable to get any response on my monitor. I believe it is not getting to POST, but I get nothing on my screen to get any feedback on what's happening. First, I tried swithching my 256mb ATI 9600 to 64mb ATI PCI card, thinking maybe I had a video card/AGP problem. No change. (My 256mb card has been working fine in another system). I then switched my USB keyboard and mouse back to the old school plugs, hoping that maybe I simply wasn't loading USB drivers etc...No luck. I then removed all PCI cards, audio card and phone modem (not really a requirement). Still the same result. At this point I was getting a loud static sound from my case speaker. The speaker may have been simply plugged in backwards, not sure. I also tried a different monitor. Still no change on restart. I then disconnected my HD's (which are two new unformatted drives) and followed the procedure to reset my CMOS. I'm now on my second try at this, as I had still had my DVD drive connected. After I have waited the required 15 plus minutes, I'm going to try a different stick of memory (other half of matched pair) in the B1 slot to see if there is any difference. I'm beginning to wonder if I am missing something here. Could it be as simple as a dead CMOS battery? Am I just losing my mind? I'm hopeful that someone can offer some good advice, as I'm pondering where to find a tall cliff to jump from...lol. |

| Re: Asus A8V Deluxe Problem Did you remove the motherboard from the chassis? Sometimes you have a grounding issue. Try taking the motherboard out, setting it on the ESD bag that the mobo came in and try to boot from there outside your case. Also. did you try clearing the CMOS (RTC)?

| I have tried clearing my CMOS. I'll give it a try outside of the case and see if that works. Thanks for the help, it's much appreciated. |

| I took the MOBO out of the case and eliminated the possibility of a grounding issue. I'm guessing that it is a power supply issue, although everything seems to have power (mobo, fans, hard drives, video card etc...) Any suggestions other than purchasing a new PSU? The budget is pretty tight... |

| Re: Asus A8V Deluxe Problem The good news if you purchase a PSU, and it doesn't work you can always return for a refund. buy locally somewhere that carries a good return policy.

Go to a store that has a really good return policy and purchase a PSU ( more like borrowing) and verify your suspicion that way. | |
