Re: ASUS P6T Deluxe (x58/ ICH10R)

Nobody checks hardware better than Chuck!

Sorry but it seems like I'm late to the fight on this one and you/ve already got it stable....

My P6T Deluxe took some playing with----but once you found the sweet spot.....

NICE!!

stable like a ROCK!

Re: ASUS P6T Deluxe (x58/ ICH10R)

Hay johnrr6,
I see you are on the news team. Do you think you can get someone to move this thread under Motherboards? It is under Processor. I could not find it for a while w/o a search.

" ASUS P6T Deluxe" is a mainboard not a CPU

Re: ASUS P6T Deluxe (x58/ ICH10R)

Since Prime95 hardly gives this platform a real work-out. If you have not, try this one LinX. It runs 5x and will max our systems out.

Re: ASUS P6T Deluxe (x58/ ICH10R)

Sorry haven't posted back, been of playing with my new rig . I have settled on a mild O/C of 3.2ghz. I left my QPI voltage at 1.32, vcore at 1.3v, Dram bus at 1.64v. Memory timmings of 8,8,8,24 1T. BLCK freq of 160 to get my 3.2ghz. I have had absolutely no lockups or BSODs under gaming conditions or any other conditions . Been really solid. Reason I stopped at 3.2ghz is due to temps. I idle around 42c and under extended gaming I get up to around 58c.
I have been working all weekend trying to get my Adobe Audition 1.5 working under windows 7 Professional 64bit and I just got it working. Had to do a little registry editing and a few uninstall and reinstall of my creative drivers and software. I am starting to hate creative products. Once you get the drivers working and soforth, just leave them alone, not worth updating unless you have a problem.
I know so far though that Windows 7 definitely takes a hit in FPS compared to Win xp. I would say about a 30% hit when playing NR2003 and atleast a 20% hit in games like NFS Shift, Dirt, GTL and Grid, but with this rig, the fps are still very high. Shift is the lowest fps game and I am always over atleast 35 fps minum and usually over 50fps.
I have my PC set up in dual boot, but have not booted back into XP because I am so happy with Win7 since I installed them both last weekend.
Also been very busy installing all my programs and games. I have tried running 3Dmark Vantage, but the screen is very corrupt when I try running it.
All my games play fine although I do have to leave the Catalyst AI turned off due to graphic issues since I upgraded to the 9.10 cats. Getting weird tints to the colors while gaming and some flickering but with the cat AI turned off, all seems fine, or if I disable crossfire, I can use the Cat AI with no problems.

Re: ASUS P6T Deluxe (x58/ ICH10R)

EWCJR your heat problem is most likely an uneven cpu heat spreader.
Cpu and cooler not mating well.
If ya take a razor blade and hold it across the cpu heat spreader.
then hold it up to the light, and ya can see light under it, its uneven.

Thanks Sir Skully. I took my heat sink off and checked it. It looks like you are right. If I put the razor blade diagonally across the heat sink, It show light across the middle, but perpendicular It has no gap whats so ever. I was using Tuniq TX-3 paste but now I used articsilver 5 and now my temps have gone up about 5 degrees. I guess I am in the market for a new cooler. Not going back with Zalman 9900. This is the third item that is bad on this build, the motherboard, my pioneer DVD burner was DOA and now my cooler. It looks like quality control is really suffering in the tech industry. Any suggestions for a really good cooler for my I7. Either the COOLER MASTER V8 or maybe the Noctua NH-U12P. I did research the coolers and those 2 or the Zalman 9900 is what I came down to and of course I went with the Zalman. I am open to suggestions. I do know I will be using Tuniq TX-3 paste.
I reinstalled my video drivers and now I am able to use CCC AI with no distortion or corruption. I guess the drives didn't install correctly the first time.

As far as coolers go I'm using a water cooled rig.
I would be not much help with air coolers.
There seems to very little quality control in the tech industry.
Sorry to hear of so much hardware going bad in your new build.
Hope things get better for ya.

Water is something I have thought of and have done a little research into it. I have a COOLER MASTER ATCS 840 case because I wanted room for a radiator in case I decide to go water in the future. Plenty if room for all that but for now I am going to stick to air. Thanks for all your help though.

Re: ASUS P6T Deluxe (x58/ ICH10R)

Hi Guy's ,

Have the same motherboard , but did have a few issues with OCZ 2000mhz Gold series ram which this board didn't like even with the smallest of OC. Switched to Corsair XMS3 1600 c7 modules with no problems.
The big issue was heat like sir skully mentions. My watercooling was still having trouble cooling the CPU @ anything over 4.2ghz 1.35v.The IHS on the 920 was very uneven, so i decided to lap it flat. This did help by about 10 degrees c & never rises above 70c on load.Iv'e now backed it down to 4.0ghz 20 x 200blk @1.25v for 24/7 use & lower temps. Water is vital to cool these CPU's even with a small overclock if you don't want your room to turn into a sauna.
Never used air for CPU cooling for over 10 years ,so can't comment on the core i7 on air.

Not been on the forum for a while sir skully , but nice to hear from you again.

Cheers

Likewise great to see ya back..
Yeah lapping has cured many of PC heat problems.
Some people that have cpu heating problems never check for an uneven
heat spreader. I've never seen an Intel chip that had a level heat spreader.
When you buy an Intel cpu you can count on it not being level.
Intel just don't make a level cpu heat spreader period....

Re: ASUS P6T Deluxe (x58/ ICH10R)

When I took my Zalman 9900 off my CPU yesterday to check it, I also took the stock intel cooler that came with my I920 and compared it to the Zalmann. To be honest I did not see any light under my razor blade when checking the stock cooler and I tried it many different angles to try to find a high or low spot. I was suprised. I did not install the stock cooler to see how well it cooled , I just wanted to see if the zalman was better than the stock cooler in that aspect and it wasn't. When you guys say lapping the IHS, I assume you are grinding it flat in some way?
I am seriously considering water cooling. This will be a entirely new game for me as I have no knowledge in this area. I have been looking at some preassembled kits but have not ruled out a custom assembled system either. Preassembled units are less overwhelming to a newbie like myself but I want it to do the job right. I am only looking to water cool the CPU. I have a COOLER MASTER ATCS 840 case so I believe I have plenty of room to install a water cooling system inside my case.
I really appreciate all the feedback and tidbits of info everyone offers as it makes this hobby even more fun and a little less challenging.
