Re: ASUS P6T Deluxe (x58/ ICH10R)

Merry Christmas to you too!!

I would just make sure that it is the latest one. Wherever it comes from does not matter. But it is a habit to always check for before any installation for the latest. Personally, I would not use the floppy method for the floppy is pretty much gone, no need to go through any trouble to install it and it is unnecessary with this system. The extraction is just plain quicker overall . Personally, that is the method I would choose. Just run the command with the manager exe, go to the folder, sendto the flash drive, and then finally instruct Vista to use that driver-Viola.

Also make sure that you use the chipset installation utility from the disk because it IS the latest one. You can find it on Intel's web site, but you have to dig a bit to find it. One BIOS setting you need to have set is ACPI 2.0 to enabled. And if you wish to use the S3/STR function change it from auto to S3 or it will not work properly.

Yes it is and should be on the driver disk too. Chuck show me a screen of your IRQ's. Same thing in device manager but do a view as resource by connection. Scroll down to the latter end.

Re: ASUS P6T Deluxe (x58/ ICH10R)

One interesting thing I found, and apparently others have too. I noticed that turbo mode did not seem to be active. Although CPUz would have the processor clock to that of what would be considered turbo mode in action. However, Core Temp did not show the same frequencies.

The issue is that for the 920 and 940 you have to have the higher C-states enabled within the BIOS. Once this is done then turbo mode will be truly active. One way to verify is actually by the multiplier and not truly the clock of the processor. But to lesson your leg work, it is the only way to have turbo mode active.

Re: ASUS P6T Deluxe (x58/ ICH10R)

OK----I was getting ready to ask about Turbo Mode.....

I've seen discussions on it over at XS-----and the consensus seems to be that if you are going to Overclock....

Make sure you turn that off.....

As well as all of the other Intel Speed Step/C-State/Green Power features....

And Asus has a setting in their EPU-6 Engine that they recommend you use if you overclock-----that basically disables power saving settings in that utility

Now I'm not looking for a massive overclock-----3.2 - 3.4 will satisfy me nicely as long as the rig runs ROCK solid......

Should I expect to shut all this "Green" stuff off if I expect to overclock???

Or can some balance be found???

I like to save power and be as Green as possible-----but I alaso want a powerful, stable rig----heck my wife laughs as I root through the trash every week sorting plastics and paper for the recycle folks here in Virginia Beach (which by the way, we have an EXCELLENT recycling capability here----fully supported by tax dollars and the local population).....

Re: ASUS P6T Deluxe (x58/ ICH10R)

I never overclock, so really i am not the one to ask. However, I have read many posts containing "disable the power saving functions then once your overclock is stable enable them." Two interesting things that I noted that I can share too.

If you use a 80plus certified PSU your temperatures will be lower. If you installed your AHS correctly your temperatures will be lower. This goes for also Core2 installations. Most do not look at the feet of the AHS (active heat sink) and make sure they are correctly through. My idle temps are low 30's and active are low 40's. This is with the included heastsink/fan.

Re: ASUS P6T Deluxe (x58/ ICH10R)

This CPU/ Mainboard will run 3.4 GHz with little to no effort.
