| Re: ASUS P6T Deluxe (x58/ ICH10R) Unbelieveable!!! Welcome Razor!!! Happy New Year to you!! And Chuck or Shal.... Built the rig----am typing on it now Got a question for you---- This may not be a Chuck or Shal question----probably an Asus BIOS problem----or maybe an Mushkin problem----but either way I sure could use some help..... The Asus 1003 BIOS has an ominous warning on the right hand side when you try to manually set the DDR Speed in BIOS....(not timings) It says, For "Locked" CPU---Only Memory set at 800 or 1066 will work!" And I think they may be absolutely correct as anytime I try to set the DDR Speed higher (which is actually just adjusting the RAM Multi x the BCLK) The rig will not boot and overclock settings fail.....(the 920 has a locked multi at 20) Set it back to Auto-----and it boots and works fine at BCLK of 180 and above...... Problem is at auto----it defaults to 1066 rated speed and my DDR speed can no where near approach the rated 1600 of these expensive Muskin kits (athough I CAN get excellent timings at 1100 DDR) Have you run into this??? Know a way around it??? Did I purchase these expensive Mushkin 1600 CAS 7 998679 kits only to find I WILL NOT be able to run them anywhere near close to 1600 speeds??? The good news is that it runs great and stable with 12 gigs of RAM!! HELP!!! Oh----the other good news is that my Nebraska Cornhuskers beat Clemson today in the Gator Bowl!!!! EDIT:---Chuck----I see by your signature you are getting DDR 1383 with decent timings with an overclock to 3.45Ghz Can you tell me what settings you are using in the BIOS??? I'm starting to get the feeling that the problem is the way the ASUS BIOS reads the SPDs on these Muskin sets----Looks like it has no problems with your Crucials

| Re: ASUS P6T Deluxe (x58/ ICH10R) johnrr6, you may want to try changing the DRAM Timing Mode from Auto to 2N (2T). That is what Corsair wanted me to do. The board seems to default at 1T. And, does not seem to read my SPD.

Thanks Chuck! My problem seems to be the setting "DRAM Frequency"----any other setting but AUTO and she won't boot..... That DRAM Frequency setting is actually the way to set the RAM Multi-----if I'm understanding the Asus BIOS.... I'm at 2T now-----but may try 1T just for the heck of it.... I do notice you have manually set the QPI link to 6244 MT/s I'll try that as well----all this Uncore---BCLK---QPI----Memory Multi has me a bit boondogled right now...... Not traditional overclocking at all..... I KNOW this RAM will go higher as I can post the machine with the BCLK set to say 140-----and the Multi on the RAM will default to a higher value....and then I just keep bumping up the BCLK in TurboV and the RAM will jump up in DDR and runs fabulously at 1530 or so DDR.... Trouble is----I can't find a setting in the BIOS that will do that and still post. I don't want to bump up BCLK manually every time I boot----totally not practical... Time to call Muskin and Asus. Mushkin had a guy who ran their forum who was absolutely fabulous----would get several of the hottest boards and just play around with them using Mushkin memory.... Settings with Muskin were easy because all you had to do was say "Hey Greg----whats the best settings for this Muskin kit and this board".....and he'd lay everything out for you..... It's why I bought these expensive Mushkins..... He resigned from Muskin on Dec 20th for unknown reasons and they are TOTALLY lost on that forum right now.... No help what so ever!!!

| Re: ASUS P6T Deluxe (x58/ ICH10R) johnrr6, I have also had good support on the Muskin forum as well. Asus told me they don't go on their forum. And, have never answered any of my questions there. Also, The Asus tech I just talked to on the phone last week had no special knowledge of the P6T. I think that is only a first line tech support and they use a question and answer book. I just set the QPI to manual the other day. I would like to also set all the voltages to manual, but, I don't know what they are to be at default. Don't want to over volt anything I don't need to. I read that Uncore is set for efficiency and little performance gain can be achieved with the setting.

| Re: ASUS P6T Deluxe (x58/ ICH10R) Yes----Greg was excellent..... Probably THE reason I have stayed with Mushkin for the last few years.... without him----there is really no extra incentive to go Mushkin's way Unless the price is right..... If Asus/Muskin can't solve this----I'm going to contact Yellow Beard and see what Corsair can do for me..... 1600 expensive RAM that won't run at 1600 is well.... useless.....

When I ("problems") contacted Corsair, they were right there to help me. Even offered advanced replacement. I think they are updating this forum today. But, my link should be good. They are pushing all kinds of settings to the Max over on the XtremeSystems Forums -'Core i7/X58 Overclocking Thread'. I don't know, you may have been there. Most have P6T Deluxe. Funny, I don't think it has necessarily resulted in much increased performance over my settings. XtremeSystems Forums Good Luck and HAPPY NEW YEAR! Please keep me posted. cb Benchmarks and Stability Testing - chuckbam

| Re: ASUS P6T Deluxe (x58/ ICH10R) If I can get 3.5 with RAM Around 1400 with CAS 7 or 8 timings----I'll be extremely Happy. Like your settings. Anything more will be..... Gravy.... I can get the CPU up really High----I just need to get my RAM multi to kick in properly without killing POST I'm also one of thse Stability Fanatics..... Quote:

Problem Is I think they tested them on a P6T with a 965 Which has an unlocked multi and SEVERAL ways of getting to 1600.... A 920 is a tad more limited..... EDIT: But good point----I can probably get much cheaper sets from Mushkin (or anyone) that will work just great----the P6T just doesn't seem to like them at higher DDR

CAS 7 at 1600 would be a killer. Maybe he can tell you his settings and test set-up. On AnandTech, they said the P6T was the only board they could boot w/ 12GBs with current bios. I think the only 1600 test on a P6T would be the CPU set at default and the Memory set at 1600. The P6T has a 1600 setting at 2.66 GHz. Anything else would be a shewed test IMHO.
