*** Flying with a Q9550 ***

I just bought a Q9550 CPU @ Microcenter. This is the much talked about revision EO stepping A. After a 20 minute burn in. I cranked er up to 8x500 bus with Vcore 1.36v and she popped right into Vista @ 4gig. My jaw dropped, I thought this won't last long. If I put Prime95 and Orthos on er at the same time. Well I let er run about 25 min while I surfed the net. Then me thinks I'll shut er down and try for more. I can't really remember the right numbers, But anywho using the 8.5 multi and somewhere well over 500 I turned up 4.5gig and right into windows she went. But Orthos soon knocked er down. Also had 4.2+gigs stable with a short run of Prime95 and Orthos.
Now I'm back @ 4gig 8x500 bus with Vcore 1.36v 1/2hr+ with Prime95 and Orthos running as I surf ABX.......

Re: *** Flying with a Q9550 ***

This one of the best oc'ing cpu's I've owned. Today I'm going to work on 4.2-3gig. Just gotta get the right voltages. I wish I knew this GIGABYTE-EP45-UD3P bios settings better. It has some new advanced setting that befoggles me...

Unreal, particularly for a quad!!!

This may help clarify some of the bios settings:

Tech ARP - The Definitive BIOS Optimization Guide

The site tends to be a little slow, so give it some seconds to respond.

Re: *** Flying with a Q9550 ***

Ok guys @ 4.6gig I took a SuperPI @ 1mil=10s
But when I tried Prime95 she locked up.
I also played around with 4.4gigs and could run Prime for a short time. Will keep playing with the 4.4gig. But as I type this... I'm @ 4250.05 as CrystalCPUID reads out. Multi 8.5, system bus 2000, 0C 87.50% Core temp core 0 62c, 1 59c, 2 63c, 63c. Core voltage 1.4v Dram Frequency 500, FSB:1:1, timings 5/5/5/15. And now @ 27 min into PRIME95 and Orthos. Why both @ the same time, Orthos puts more stress on the memory. This is sure a ***stardust *** sprinkled golden chip.....

Re: *** Flying with a Q9550 ***

I'm not sure but I think this mobo kicked back the Vcore to 1.28v As it now reads, in CPU-Z and also same reading in Easytune6, a GIGABYTE utility. I was reading this in the bios forgot what its called but when enabled and @ a certain level, it will lower the Vcore. Which is fine by me as long it lets me keep my OC. So far everything is still as the above. 1 hr + into stress test.... all core reading 61c

Your welcome NBK

Re: *** Flying with a Q9550 ***

I ran into the perfect OC'ing storm, cpu, mobo, water rig. The icing on the PC cake, is a great video card 4870 1gig card, with Dangerden full water jacket. It oc's great and stays @ a cool 35-36 @ full tilt. To say the least I'm in PC nirvana....

Re: *** Flying with a Q9550 ***

2 1/2 hrs into stress test and all is still fine. Temps up a wee bit 64, 64, 65, 65, across all cores.
