New X58 Media/Gaming Build!

I am very happy with this new build, what a performance boost. I absolutely love these new i7 processors, and I spent way less then I originally thought. This new system is in an HTPC case, attached to my Sony reciever via HDMI, then out of that into my 56" Samsung via HDMI. Games are amazing at 1920x1080, and the scaling option in the latest ATI drivers solves the overscan problem I had with my previous system connected to this T.V.

I find now I only go into the office computer to check e-mail lol... anyway here's what I went with.

Silverstone Black Aluminum HTPC Case
OCZ StealthXtreme 700w
ASUS P6T SE
Intel Core i7 920
G.Skill 6GB Triple Channel DDR3
HIS Radeon 4890 1GB
WD Caviar Black 500GB 7200RPM Sata
Plextor 22x DVD Sata
Logitech 5500 Bluetooth Mouse/Keyboard

This was one of the more satisfying builds I've done, and Windows 7 RC1 is rocking without problems, everything works perfectly. Havn't tried an overclock yet.... don't know if I will although it appears most of you have had good luck with the i7's.

Thanks for all the info everyone posts about their builds, it really helps.

Congrats on the new setup and good luck with it.

I have heard nothing but great comments on the i7 920. Problem I have in getting a new system is mine is running so well plus the new i7's systems seem to require a huge power supply. I don't want to get rid of my Signature 650. People with the new EVGA Classified boards do 1000-1800W lol.

Very nice looking system there. All this talk about i7 *almost* makes me want to upgrade again... but I'm still happy with my Evolution...

How's that case for temps? I heard the 4890 can get hot under load...

Yes that's true, the card in my other system is a 4850 so I had investigated this issue months ago. Turns out the GPU fan idles too low, at 20% it was idling around 70c. The trick is to manually raise it, even up to 40% makes a huge difference, right now it's idling at 50c. Under load it will get close to 70c unless I crank the fan up before starting a game, which I really don't do.

Sandog, I'm no expert but I'm only using a 700w PS. And that's with a power hungry graphics card, I am kind of slim on other internal components though. I do think people get way to carried away with the power supply. I could be wrong though.
