Yeah I read that. Everybodies jaw was dropped. Nobobdy's ever seen performance like Conroe is delivering and I think these chips are only engineering samples. Only a couple of months until Conroe is available I hope.

Yep only a few months. Woodcrest in June, Conroe in July, and Merom in August. As it looks like Intel is targeting the areas where the most profit to be gained is.

Thanks, Sandog. Come around August, the main computer will probably be replaced with a Woodcrest workstation, or maybe Conroe. Man those guys on the XS forum are tempting me really bad with those Yonah and "Core" benchmarks.

The Yonah boards are in the $400 range plus the Conroe/D975XBX will blow that away. I bet there will be a million Conroe/D975XBX runnin' folks.

One of our own devoted members who works for AT just wrote a very nicely worded article on a new AOpen 479pin mobo. I haven't read it all yet but I think he is running a Yonah chip. Anyway there are benchmarks and comments on Conroe performance and comparisons to AMD's current chips which Conroe is speculated at at least 10-15% faster. He is also getting a newer revision Conroe chip to play around with soon. Please check his article out. http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2750

I guess the nice thing about Yonah is that it is compatible with Merom.

$1199 for E8000?? When E6900 costs $969?? Difference of 133MHz and 266MHz FSB. Is it worth it?? My estimation is that per clock, the extra FSB afforded by Conroe over Merom gives 14-15% advantage, specifically in Quake 4. Extra 133MHz clock should give around ~2% increase. So total is around 17-18%. I would guess the overall is around 10-15% depending on program. I would say the EE is worth it, except if you look starting from 2.66GHz, the higher end ones are not. But to get an unlocked multiplier you need EE anyway. The sweet spot lies on E6600. Its not called Extreme Edition anymore. The name is out. Conroe mainstream: Core 2 Duo Conroe "EE": Core 2 Extreme I like the logo and name, but I have always been partial to Intel

I kinda like the new Core 2. But I am majorly partial to the Xeon line up. Hopefully motherboard manufactors will make some somewhat decent overclocking Woodcrest boards

| "IF", and I double stress "IF" I was to EVER pay $969 for a CPU, I'd pay the extra and get the Extreme for $1199. Why have people wonder if you are partially crazy? Go for the gusto and get the extreme and remove all doubt! ![]()
