Is that a northwood or a prescott. Is it an Extremely Expensive version or normal.

For real, let me first hear if it'll run on my board or not without melting.

This would be an experiment to see if "cheaper" RAM at LL and High Processor speed would be a more cost effective/stable deal than say a 2.4MO @~285 (if lucky) and Corsair PC4400 ($439) running at 3-3-4-8. The Sis is $100, and the P4C800 is $171.

However, I am in no hurry - I want to see how more people see the mobo here, and what happens with the prescott - Monday.
After having recently built two P4P800's, & a P4C800-E, using P4C 'D1's & a 2.8G 'MO', I'd REALLY like to buld a 2.4 'MO' w/Corsair PC4400, except Corsair forces me to buy a whole GB of PC4400 if I wanna' run Dual Channel, instead of my usual 512MB of Corsair TWINX. [I build my machines mainly as dedicated crunchers for Distributed Computing, so I don't need a huge amount of RAM].

As far as your performance experiment goes, as long as both procs are the 512MB cache versions, my money's on the faster FSB w/1:1 memory, hands down, for any given cpu clock speed. This is strickly from a performance viewpoint. I realize your goal is to examine the price/performance ratios.
------

FWIW: I've got 512MB of Corsair TWINX PC4000 runnin' @ 257 FSB, using CAS 2.5 timings, with both turbo and MAM enabled, on my P4C800-E. Yep, CAS 2.5 @ 257 FSB
Surprised the H*** outta' me, too!

Took 2.85Vdimm, but manged to crack (just barely) 6K Sandara buffered.

My other two sticks of TWINX PC4000 are also CAS 2.5, @ 243 FSB. Good stuff, this TWINX PC4000, IMNSHO. Would really love to see what the PC4400 can do w/a 2.4 'MO', but at four bills 'street price' just for the memory...yshhh...ridiculous...

The race for quality has no finish line- so technically, it's more like a death march.

3.2NW at Monarchcomputer is $274 .......$5 cheaper
I'm going backwards and looking for the 2.8 533fsb proc for around $170 (also the new price due on Monday). Currently, whenever I find these procs the store/reseller is out of stock. I really don't want to buy another board to accomodate for an 800fsb proc and yet not be able to use the HT. Plus I'm using single sided PC2100 and PC2700 RAM sticks. Simply no reason to get an 800fsb proc for this system, the 512k cache would be real nice.

Update:
Just ordered an Intel board-refurbed for $60, regular price is $113. So now I can consider an 800fsb proc; however, HT will have to be disabled. Why did I purchase this mobo? Because a 1GB NIC is on average $40 and so $20 more I get the GB NIC (using CSA LAN) and can support the 800fsb proc and I get dual memory (even have the sticks for that).
