| Which OS support Turbo boost? A lot of new Motherboards support Turbo boost for the i7, i5, new Xeons, in BIOS. However Intel states that once enabled turbo boost runs under the control of the Operating system. Does someone know which Operating systems are Turbo boost aware? And what if any Service Packs need to be applied? Specifically if you want to game in XP, or Linux will you be stuck in the processors base speed? This question might not seem too important if your processor will only step up one or two bins, but if you are like me considering the Xeon L3426, you don't want to be stuck in 1.8GHz if you were planning on one core to rev up to 3.2GHz |

| Re: Which OS support Turbo boost? Wow----I've never heard of this.... It's ACPI and BIOS aware.... Has nothing to do with OS.... At least that is what I thought.... if your BIOIS and Chip support it----you get it---if not, you don't..... on the flip side----I just carefully overclock my setup and forget about turbo boost.... but if you were going to run just stock----I can see an advantage.....

| Re: Which OS support Turbo boost? PCs running Windows 7 to be given turbo boost - Techworld "PCs running Windows 7 to be given turbo boost" "the OS makes better use of power management features included in Intel's latest chips" At first I worried about XP being able to make use of the turbo boost features of the new processors, but this article makes me wonder about Vista as well !!! ![]() Last edited by GWillakers; 10-21-2009 at 04:24 PM.. |

| Re: Which OS support Turbo boost? That's an unfound rumor. It's true Windows 7 will have more situations where the higher clocks will occur, but it works almost, if not just as well in XP. Windows 7 is a bit better with scheduling which will affect single core Turbo Mode speeds, but with 2 core? Probably don't matter much. Unless you are running a really ancient OS like Win98(or probably even ME), but then most of the chipset drivers aren't made for that OS anyway... |
