| Re: Who is still running a S478 Pentium 4 system as their primary rig? Heh, I've got a Gigabyte Canterwood (875P) board here, 8KNXP Rev 2.0 with 800 FSB, and its running perfectly. This machine has run smooth as silk without even the slightest hiccup day in day out for a few years now. It sports a Northwood 3.2GHz CPU. Its got 2GB of Corsair low latency XMS DDR2 memory and PAT is enabled... heh heh The only other items of interest is the X1950Pro AGP card and the Creative Audigy 2. The machine runs all games perfectly, although I've refused to play Crysis on it as it would be too slow at the settings I want, although the demo played extremely well. I'm rebuilding shortly, ostensibly due to Crysis and other upcoming new titles, but not in a rush since I'm incredibly busy at work right now. I have definetly gotten bang for buck out of this and have bypassed a couple of upgrade cycles already, so its been a good "investment" with just a couple of vid card upgrades over its time and an additional 1GB of DDR.When I build, I will be building for the same kind of machine, so reliability, stability and future proofed as much as possible.

| Re: Who is still running a S478 Pentium 4 system as their primary rig? Still Running P4S800D E Deluxe with 2.8E. 1 gig ram, Sapphire HD 3850 AGP vid card. Intend to put atsc tuner card in it and move it to entertainment center, just waiting on the integrated memory controller from Intel (and enough money)before building new rig.Wife's is the P4S8X with 1 gig ram. Both machines have been trouble free except for a failed power supply.. |

| Re: Who is still running a S478 Pentium 4 system as their primary rig? My main rig is still a P4 2.4c with a Radeon 9800 Pro - which was built 5 years ago now. I've had 2 kids since then and a few financial challenges thrown in - so I just haven't had the cash to upgrade. I did buy an Asus 2.0ghz Core 2 Duo laptop a year ago and probably use that more now as my PC is in what is now my Daughters bedroom! Hopefully I'll upgrade in the next year but now that I've stopped gaming - It's generally does what I need most of the time, which is browsing, skype and MS Office. Still love my 24" monitor too. | I'm still running my 8INXP with a 2.8b D1 Stepping OC'ed to 163 bus with a gig of ram running 2-2-2-5. It's stable as can be, and it's got a 6600GT agp version. It could use a good dusting, but other than that, I haven't done ANYTHING to it in a LONG time. ![]() |

| Re: Who is still running a S478 Pentium 4 system as their primary rig? My main build is still a P4 2.8 from November 2003. It'll be replacing the family computer once I build a new system, probably this Fall. It's still great for the majority of apps and as far as gaming goes I mostly have been playing WoW and games like Civ/SimCity, etc. I am looking forward to a new system, I recently bought a 22 inch monitor and my good ol' Radeon 9800 finally starts to show its age with WoW at 1680x1050. - Nicholas

| Re: Who is still running a S478 Pentium 4 system as their primary rig? Just resurrected my 5 year old 8INXP mobo for my kid after a few years in the storeroom, still runs smooth as before. With a P4 1.8A@2.6, 1GB RAM and a 6800LE@12v6p, it plays COD4 rather well at 1024x768. Heheh even when o'ced, the S3 functions work perfectly with Win XP/SP2 - something the newer GA mobos still can't guarantee. Overall, got a few S478 rigs still up and running but my main rig is a Q6600 these days.

| Re: Who is still running a S478 Pentium 4 system as their primary rig? I sold my P4 2.5GHz 400/512 to someone on the bimmerforums a while back. It had a 2.5GHz/400/512 Northwood P4/1GB Kingston RAM/Abit IS7-G/ATI Radeon 9600XT 8x AGP/Soundblaster Live!/80GB WD hard drive/CD burner/Antec 1040 case. I built it in mid 2002 and retired it in mid 2007. Great PC but needed more power for Photoshop. The PC in my sig is current. I do have a 2.4GHz/400/512 Northwood/1GB Kingston/Intel 845PT/Riva TNT2 M64 that I use for everything except photoshop. Still runs great.

| Re: Who is still running a S478 Pentium 4 system as their primary rig? My main rig, which I call my everyday PC is a P4C800-E with a 2.8 gig CPU. I generally run 3 rigs, my everyday PC, my VCR PC, and my Game PC. The game PC crapped out a while ago and I haven't replaced it yet. The VCR PC was the last PC I thought I would replace, but I just built a new machine to replace it since I'm giving it to my business. The old VCR PC is also a P4C800-E with a 3.2 gig CPU. The new VCR PC is an IP35 Pro with an E2220 Dual Core CPU. I just couldn't pass up that one day $70 rebate on the IP35 Pro at Newegg. I have a new Game PC in progress with a GA-P35-DS4 and an E6750, not sure when I'll get to finishing it though. I did just play Command & Conquer 3 on the old VCR PC and it played just fine. As to why I still keep the everyday PC there are a couple reasons. Probably the mian one is it runs great and still does everything I need it to do. The P4C800-E is pretty much the best motherboard I have ever owned. I'm not sure what to replace it with and since I need PS/2 mouse and keyboard port for my KVM half the Asus models are out. The other reason I kind of don't want to replace it is it will take me just forever to do a new build and install everything on it that I have installed now. I've upgraded it with a couple new bigger drives and just bought a new HDTV tuner for it, so my guess is I'll end up running it till it dies.

| Me, since 2004. Northwood 2.8 fsb533. Running on asus p4s800d-e dlx. Together with kingston kvr333x64c25/1G (pc333) in dual channel mode. I don't need any replacement for this system yet. It meets my current requirements very well. But my current problem is just the cpu. POST says "system failed cpu test". So I have to purchase new cpu. My local stores offer - Pentium 4 2.8 GHz ( 533 MHz ) Northwood - Pentium 4 3.0 GHz ( 800 MHz ) Prescott No more choices available. What do you recommend ? To take the 533 one again, or to change to the 800 one ? Will my PC333 ram run with fsb800 ? The existing RAM should stay unreplaced. That's the urgent case. Please give your hints asap. I need this system is running again asap as well. Thanks. |

| Re: Who is still running a S478 Pentium 4 system as their primary rig? My wife still runs a p4p800 with a prescott 3.2 GHz, 2GHz DDR memory and winXP (win Vista could also run but there were, let's say... some slowdowns). My most important trouble is that installing XP SP3 results in random reboots, so I stay with SP2 with every update since SP2. 3D gaming on a 7600GS AGP keep reasonable, surely for the games before 2007. The whole system is backed up with True Image Home 11. |
