| Re: Who is still running a S478 Pentium 4 system as their primary rig? Still running my P4C800E-Deluxe/3.6 P4 rig... its getting long in the tooth, especially for 3D work, but I can't decide what to upgrade to. The thing is so rock solid though, its really hard to move on. |

| Re: Who is still running a S478 Pentium 4 system as their primary rig? For what it's worth, I would still be on my D875PBZ with custom VR and SB silver heat sinks and 3.4EE if it weren't so good that it made me think the next thing Intel had was better. |

| Re: Who is still running a S478 Pentium 4 system as their primary rig? Just installed Vista 32bit on my old P4C800e Deluxe that's running a 3.0c nw @ 3.6 Ghz with 4 x 512mg of ram. Everything worked out of the box except the audio. It found them on the net and now it's good to go. Actually it runs rather well. Nice to know the old girl can still do it ![]()

| Re: Who is still running a S478 Pentium 4 system as their primary rig? Nope, never had one. I still have one AthlonXP running, but it'll be retired (or re-purposed as a server) this week. Newer CPUs & systems are just so much faster it's amazing.

| Re: Who is still running a S478 Pentium 4 system as their primary rig? I just ordered this mobo from Newegg to resurrect a 3.0 Northwood I had laying around. Sata2, PCI-E, and DDR2 should breathe new life into it for a work rig. Newegg.ca - MSI 945GCM478-L 478 Intel 945GC Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

| Re: Who is still running a S478 Pentium 4 system as their primary rig? LOL, me too. Setup my P4P800 SE at (i think was '05) and still using it as primary rig, for everything, even some pretty recent games which would require a fair amount of 3D power.... Of course, i got it boosted with 2GB RAM DDR400, the CPU 3.0 O/C at 3,47GHz stable, 2xSATA in RAID (stripe), and added (lately) an ATI Radeon HD 3650 card, which has significantly boosted my games performance. Also,i put on Vista, just to test it, but then (of course) went straight back to XP, which is by far, much more less a power hunger...!!! In general, it still works like a charm and i don't think i'll be replacing it soon, unless it totally crashes on me.... |

| Re: Who is still running a S478 Pentium 4 system as their primary rig? P4C-800VM/3.0 prescot still powering my HTPC, about to be replaced by a P5N7a-VM. Still have a P4C-800 deluxe/3.2 northwood, linux box running every day. Main rig P5Q deluxe/e8400. I think for most people doing basic computer stuff a 3 gig northy/prescott processor works just fine. These 478 pin processor boards from Asus seem like they will run as long as you want them too. Quality MB in my opinion.

| Re: Who is still running a S478 Pentium 4 system as their primary rig? Well I'm still running a 8KNXP Ultra (Gigabyte) on a secondary rig. That board has more features than you can shake a stick at... Adaptec SCSI on board, 4 SATA ports with RAID, Dual Channel DDR400,Dual BIOS, 6 channel audio, 6 DIMM slots, AGP Pro Slot, DPS, Gigabit Ethernet, USB 2.0.

| Re: Who is still running a S478 Pentium 4 system as their primary rig? I'm still running my P4 system as my primary. I actually plan on upgrading it a bit; P4 3.0ghz, 2x1gigs pc3200 possibly 4x1gigs if no drawback, ati 3850. I was actually holding off till Nehalem, but then I found out of the limitations of not being able to overclock the more mainstream cpus. So I plan on waiting to see on any new developments from overclockers and if not, I will just buy a q6600 build around that. My other option would be to wait for Sandy Bridge in 2010. ![]() |

| Re: Who is still running a S478 Pentium 4 system as their primary rig? My P4 rig went flaky last year, so I used it as an excuse to get all upgraded (rig in sig). I probably would have stuck with it a while longer if it hadn't bailed on me. (P4 2.8 @ 3.5 w/X1950 Pro AGP). I do have some s478 systems, but they're in storage atm.

| I'm still using my Intel D875PBZ v205 P27 and made a few upgrades recently: New Video Card - Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 512MB AGP Replaced my XFX GeForce 7950GT 512MB AGP after it died after a year and a half from what I believe to be high temperatures due to a terribly ineffective heatsink, and high failure rates from the product in general (my first was an RMA). Bought some new purple Zalman memory heatsinks and installed my Zalman FC-ZV9 with ease on the Sapphire. New Power Supply - SeaSonic M12 SS-700HM I needed a new power supply to run the new video card and I wanted to get something that I could eventually transfer to a new system. There was a great deal on NewEgg and I picked up this highly-rated, modular power supply. It replaced my trusty Antec TruePower 430 which I will hold on to and use in another build at some point. New Memory - TWINX2048 Corsair XMS 3200C2PT With memory so cheap I went ahead and got another 2GB of the stuff I've been using for awhile now. The Dual Channel 3 GB really helps out with a lot of the hard drive chugging I was getting during games and such. So far it has been a great upgrade and my system is able to continue to serve my gaming and utility needs into the future. BJB
