No, it weighs exactly 367g on its own, probably near to 500g with a fan fitted. Thanks for the heads up about it being a little difficult to fit, which is a concern, dont want to damage the board with a slip.

So at this point I'm wavering between the XP120 and the Zalman 7700cu.

You mentioned earlier that you went to the Zalman site ...
Did you checkout the installation flash videos ?
They also have models with a smaller fan ... 92mm I think which would be lighter and the half copper half alum ones are lighter. However I have always gone with 120mm fans and copper only except once when I needed it quick.

You have a point about the fan being integrated however, I have three that are over a few years old and have not had a problem yet.

Re: Socket 775 HSF recommendations?

Since you are in the market for a new cooler why don't you have a look at some of those new coolers with the heatpipes in direct contact with the CPU, by all the reviews I've seen they look to do very well indeed and they don't seem overly heavy. Just an idea.

Sounds great, can you post a link?

No, I'll have a look. I also prefer 120mm fans as they are much quieter. (You can get quite a noise out of a 92). The cu model is already 600g itself, the all copper one must be a kilo!!

I think my point about the integrated fan is a weak one, it was just an afterthought while we were discussing the pros and cons, but, on reflection, I guess its no biggie to replace a HSF every few years ... good schedule for replacing the TIM as well... my real issue was always the weight. I hope TopDogZero posts some links...

This will be my next cooler:

http://www.zalman.co.kr/ENG/product/...ad.asp?idx=278

Nickel plated copper weighing 475 grams.

From the Cautionary Notes: "The maximum weight for a cooler is specified as 450g for Intel Socket 775 and AMD Sockets
AM2/754/939/940. Special care should be taken when moving a computer equipped with a cooler that exceeds the specified weight limit. Zalman is not responsible for any damage that occurs when moving a computer."

A few ABxBuds have this cooler.

Re: Socket 775 HSF recommendations?

I've been very pleased with the new OCZ Vendetta 2 that TDZ mentioned, used with an E8400. It is more than 6 inches tall, though, so it will not fit in a narrow to medium width case.

Regards,

Re: Socket 775 HSF recommendations?

I personally like the Xigmatek HDT-SD964 because it is only 466g with fan, and that fan is a 4 pin with PWM, a lot of the coolers only have 3 pin fans. When I upgrade my CPU I think this might be the cooler for me, right now my AC Freezer 7 Pro is doing just fine, it will move along with CPU to a budget motherboard in to my second system.

The Zalman CNPS8700 NP has a PWM fan.

Yeah, I like that one too. Interesting that Zalman post that "cautionary" note. It seems that they achnowledge this issue and leave it up to us customers to decide. Oh well, this cooler is what, 5% over the maximum? If I know engineers that maximum should probably have a 10% buffer... at least thats what I'm going to say to myself to rationalise this purchase

Re: Socket 775 HSF recommendations?

I use a Thermalright Ultima 90 w/ 92mm fan. It's probably close to 1/2 kilo, but I don't mind because the backing plate used to mount it spreads out the load.
