Which thermal paste is best

I am going to build a Quad core system using Q6600 with a Thermalright 120 ultra Extreme on a EVGA 680i. I wanted to know the best paste to use? I heard I should remove the stock paste on the chipset for the EVGA board? Should I ugrade the stock chipset cooler? If so, which should I pick,Thermalrght?

I've always used Arctic Silver Ceramique.

Do clean off the old stuff. Use the two step Arctic Silver CPU paste cleaner. It is superior to any other method.

If you are not over clocking, Shin Etsu X23-7783D, http://www.microsi.com/packaging/thermal_grease.htm or Ceraminque. The Shin Etsu stuff is the Intel cpu grey googey heatsink material. Find the hottest Intel cpu and ask what they were using.

If the mixture has been sitting undisturbed for all that time then I'd expect it to have undergone some separation and depending on which way up the tube was the heavy components will have fallen to the bottom.

I dont see any practical way to remix it and I'd expect it would have to impact the characteristics of it, so my advice would be to not use it.

It might be worth your time to email the manufucturer and see what they say too.

I have used AS5, crappy white stuff included with heatsinks, AS cremique, Shin Etsu. As far as which performs best, you will get more variation in mounting than the actual temps. But supposing that you get the exact mounts cremique and Shin Etsu would be the best that I have dealt with.

Yeah. That brings up another issue: How does one store his tube of AS after he has used it?
