| Ok, this is bizarre. For the longest time I was using a Thermalright SLK-900U heatsink along with a 92mm Tornado fan. Recently I replaced the SLK with an XP-90 and stuck with the Tornado fan. Last night I replaced the Tornado fan with a regular 92mm fan just to see how it would compare...I'm a little tired of all the noise from the Tornado (55dba). Regular fan=40cfm Tornado=119cfm Someone PLEASE explain why my CPU temps actually *IMPROVED* by 3 deg!!! I just don't get it. All that noise for all that time for nothing. I seriously don't get it. |

| the air may be impacting the hs at a bad angle and not going through. its all about aerodynamics.

| The fan guard can also play a large part in creating noise, I have a Thermaltake spark 7+ cooler and it was insanely noisy till I took the guard off. Sure it looked cool, but it had so many sharp edges that it actually whistled.

| Thanks for the help. The Tornado has a guard of sorts built onto the back of it. I believe it helps pull more air through the fan and it does create more noise in the process. Perhaps it is also effecting the air hitting the heatsink? Not sure. Thanks. |

| that directs the airflow straight down, without it the air would blow in a corkscrew of sorts

| Could be the air can't make it through the heatsink fast enough and it's compressing (slightly) back to the fan. Have been playing with Qfan and found that lowering my Tt from 4500 to 3750 RPM hasn't made a temp difference.. but like yours.. a lot less noise. ddd |
