| no one is denying that SSD's are faster then mechanical hard drives...they definitely are much faster...but there are other factors that go into purchasing decisions besides speed...Skully paid $1080 for 3 SSD's for a total capacity of 360GB...right now a 300GB Velociraptor is available for $199 at Newegg and a 1 TB drive is available for $99...is an SSD worth paying nearly 4 times more for the same storage space?...with all their potential risks/drawbacks/long term viability?...not to mention new SSD's coming soon which threaten to make current SSD's obsolete...if you have the money to burn then hey there are no limits to what you can buy...me personally I think of value versus performance same way you bought an i7 920 versus the i7 965/975...why so, if living for the now and having the fastest performance is all that matters?...because it's never about having the fastest part...it's up to the individual to determine what they want...most people look for value (for any purchase, not just computer hardware) while some do not care and just buy whatever they want...I wish I could buy anything at anytime but my brain overrules my desires by the way that HHD/hybrid hard disk that Dvorak mentioned in that article I lnked to a few posts back sounded really good...even better then SSD's...what the hell happened to them?...half spinning platter and half flash memory sounds perfect...I hope HHD's are not forgotten about

| Re: * 3x120gig OCZ SSD's in RAID-0 * I agree there are other deciding factors then speed. As there were other factors in my decision. Each person has to make up their mind on these drives. If I was younger I may have waited. Age is one of my factors. There is always something new just around the corner in computers. My health/age/finances are a driving force in decision making. I really just posted this thread to show what these SSD's can do. I really don't care if anyone buys them or not. We all need to research what ever we are buying. So as to get what is right for you and your circumstances. OCZ forum is a good source of info on SSD's, if anyone wants to know more about SSD's and OCZ SSD's.

On my dads side no man even reached 60. I'm maybe the oldest at 65. I'm secure in my finances, so far. I'm not going to run this 3 SSD RAID-0 for long. One drive will go into my laptop. Then back to 2 drive RAID-O... The learning of new technology is my real interest. By owning new tech stuff, it keeps my learning interest sparked...... ![]()

| Re: * 3x120gig OCZ SSD's in RAID-0 * I've been thinking of taking the 3xRAID-0, and going 2xRAID. Putting one drive in a laptop. And dropping back to 2xRAID. But I ran an ATTO benchie, then had second thoughts. I don't think I'd notice the speed drop in real use. But the psychological thing is holding me back....... By the by this is my highest ATTO benchie yet....

| OCZ has released a new firmware for the Vertex--version 1.20...sadly this firmware update will totally clean the drive and reset it I didn't realize that performance on these SSD's degrade VERY quickly after very minimal use...benchmarking the drive further degrades it...many in the industry say that benchmarking an SSD could actually damage the drive ![]() apparently you have to run that wiper program every single day to keep performance up and even then it might not reach the same high performance levels achieved as when you first got the drive too risky if you ask me...SSD's may be the future but for now I'm perfectly happy sticking with my clunky mechanical drive

don't want to buy a SSD at this time. But get your facts right. There is lots of positive/correct info and up todate out there, on SSD's. The updated firmware is 1.30 not 1.20. Anyone wanting the correct info on OCZ SSD's. Please visit OCZ SSD forums. Read what real owners are saying about their OCZ SSD's. Here's the link to OCZ forum.....http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/fo...play.php?f=186

| all the info I posted was correct...except maybe that OCZ released a newer firmware (1.30)...I got my information from 3rd party sites and not OCZ itself...if you want unbiased reviews of a product the last place you go is the manufacturer's website...of course they are going to tell you that the product they are selling is the best read some SSD reviews from independent sites...it's OK if you love your SSD, no one is saying they are bad...but everyone has to know all the facts before making a puchasing decision...making them sound perfect to justify your purchase is not the way to do it as far as the wiper program---you definitely have to run it every day to avoid performance issues when using an OS other then Windows 7...that's a fact...and even then only the latest SSD's with newer firmware supports the Windows 7 RC1 TRIM feature...please get your facts correct before calling me out

| Re: * 3x120gig OCZ SSD's in RAID-0 * Why would I send anyone to the OCZ product page. If I was trying to paint an unreal view of their drives. Remember an unhappy customer is more apt to post on the product page then not. You're the one posting erroneous info not me. And yes I look at things with a postive view. I stated in my past post. That its up to anyone person to do research on anything they buy. And not to take any one persons view of a product.

| Re: * 3x120gig OCZ SSD's in RAID-0 * Ok, I didn't set out to give any kind of real review of OCZ 120gig SSD's. I thought folks who really want to know how these drives hold up. Should go to OCZ SSD fourm and check it out. Because contrary to some, and their way of thinking. The fact is a person will go to a product/pc hardware site. When they have a problem with said product, and or to learn, as I do. Yes these SSD's are new tech. Improvements are being made at a reather rapid pace. One needs to have the time to learn the tweaks, it takes. To get peak performance and keep it. Yes preformance does degrade over time. But very easy to restore. I run a 3X120gig RAID-0. There are 3 ways I know of to restore performance on SSD's. CCleaner works for some folks RAID, wiper works on most all single drives, imaging the of C: drive, is the other that I know of. With my RAID-O the wiper doesn't work, CCleaner I'm not quite sure of yet. Remember I'm new to this new tech and still learning. What does work and works guite well for my RAID setup is the imaging C: drive. I've had these drives a little over a month. And restored the preformance twice with imaging. Even when my preformance drops its still much, much, faster then a HD/HD-RAID. I'll show an example, of what my RAID looks like. After an image restore and 3 days later with no tweaks what so ever. We will see how preformance holds up. By the by W-7 RC1 built in drive imaging works quite well. Would I recommend these OCZ SSD'S I sure would and do, to those who enjoy tweaking/learning/and being on the edge of new tech. Do I have any regrets NO! I had a 30 day return policy on these drives, I let two of these drives run out, and the third drive, will also soon run out. If I don't have any trouble with the third drive in what's left of the 30 days. I take a pic of the SSD's after imaging, and save. I'll show the pic saved of preformance on the 16th of this month and compare to todays preformance pic. And this be the way it is, and I lie not.....
