Re: * 3x120gig OCZ SSD's in RAID-0 *

Definitely, the way to the future.

Very Nice Skully, its always nice to have someone else invest their cash and trailblaze a newer and better way of doing things.

Several SSD's running in Raid.

Wonder if some enterprising vendor will combine the SSD's into one package, running off one electrical cable.

Think one physical package combining 4 SSD's in a Raid-0, with 4 sata data cables comming out the back and only one sata power cable.

Definitely a requirement for higher bandwidth data ports...

Re: * 3x120gig OCZ SSD's in RAID-0 *

Here's some ATTO benchies, comparing 2x120gig RAID-0 vs. 3x120gig RAID-O
The lesser ATTO score is the 2X120gig RAID-O....of course.....
Now if I can only find a few more tweaks to up the benchies...
Some other differences between 2 and 3 SSD RAID-O, 2 SSD RAID-0,
from first bios screen to usable desktop was 23 sec. The 3 SSD RAID-O
is 19 sec. So you do notice a speed up of PC with addition of a third drive.
From hitting the reset button on open desktop, to usable desktop is 28 sec with 3X SSD.

I'm seriously considering picking up a 128 GB SSD but not the OCZ Vertex...that is good enough for Vista + 5-10 games + some applications...

Skully before installing the OS did you align the partition as stated in the OCZ forums?...is that necessary for all SSD's even ones not made by OCZ?...did you use 64KB?...finally when you install Vista is it true that you must use the Quick Format method and not the Full Format?

Re: * 3x120gig OCZ SSD's in RAID-0 *

I'm using W-7 RC1 as OS. There is no alignment needed, as W-7 takes care of it. I can only speak for OCZ, as I've been to
busy with its tweaks. To read much about the others. I used 128KB. Again can't speak for Vista. But when installing W-7, if I remember right. There was no option for Formating. But it was a fast format.
From all I read about SSD's there is only one better then OCZ and that's Intel X25-M. I've gotten some unreal ATTO benchies even higher then before. I'll post them here after I have supper.

I don't understand something...you said you did not align the SSD so what did you set to 128KB?

Re: * 3x120gig OCZ SSD's in RAID-0 *

Sorry, that was 128bit, in reference to RAID-O setup.
To reiterate, there is no alignment needed for W-7.

Re: * 3x120gig OCZ SSD's in RAID-0 *

Most applications come up so fast it startles me.
Games also load much faster. W-7 experience score is 7.6.
Ok, here is my best tweaked ATTO score and window's experience score.
400+ writes and 600+ reads, it ain't fast, its lightning....

anything negative you've experienced or has it all been positive?

The couple of weeks I've had these SSD's its been positive. I've went from a single drive to three drives. Each stage just got better, this is my limit. A three stage rocket....
It really, really, is hard to go back to mechanical drives once you've tried the SSD's. My Raptor RAID-O now seems slow and noisy.
