| ATA100 support on CUSL2 I have the following configuration Primary IDE: Master: IBM 40 GB HDD (ATA-100, running at ATA-66) Primary IDE: Slave: None Secondary IDE: Master: None Secondary IDE: Slave: None My Question. I know the primary IDE has ATA-100 support, but think the secondary IDE doesn't, it supports upto ATA-33. So if i buy a new ATA-100 HDD and put it in the secondary IDE, it will run at ATA-33 right? which sucks, of course. What can I do? Also should I change my HDD to run at ATA-100 instead of ATA-66? I'm running windows 2000 SP2, no intel UDMA-100 drivers (they are bad!). I have been running on ATA-66 because prior to SP2, Windows 2000 supported ATA-66 max. Should I now enable ATA-100? Big performance increase? |

| In answer to the first part of your question: Both IDE channels on an Intel 815 based motherboard are ATA-100. So, you can have 4 HD's, 2 on each channel and all of them will run at ATA-100 specs. I can't really comment on the second part of your question as I use a Promise ATA-100 RAID controller under Win2k, so I've had ATA-100 support for a while. |

| As BladeRunner said as well, both the IDE channels on a mainboard that uses the Intel ICH2 support ATA100. On the Asus board, only the first connector is actually blue, but both channels are ATA100. SP2 includes support for ATA100 (previous Win2K releases only support ATA66), so if you enable UDMA mode for the Primary and Second IDE Channels (see Device Manager, under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, and then properties of primary and secondary channel), Win2K will use the highest available mode for a device connected to the IDE channels. I doubt the performance increase will be very great, going from ATA66 to ATA100. As for the Intel drivers, why do you think they're bad? I use them on my system, and have no problems at all with them. If you think they're bad because of the high CPU usage reported by HDTach, well, HDTach is wrong! For compatibility issues, I suggest you check out this document. HTH
