| I have to say that IBM´s harddrives are the best.. they are extremely fast and lasts for years... I have a 22GPX, a 75GPX and a 60GPX all 7200 rpm and they work like charms! //Rebellion

| I fully agree with Rebellion. I have four PC's with in total 6 IBM IDE harddisks at 7200 rpm (ATA 100). Two PC's are running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (one is running for a year now, the other one for almost 8 months). |

| Has Anybody had bad experiences with Western Digital Drives? so far the only bad experience i had was that the hardisk cant take a FSB speed of over 158Mhz.

| Western Digital makes a good hard drive. They are offering some really great rebates on thier drives to drum up business. If you are looking for a decent hard drive that may not be a top performer but will suit you will then a WD or a Seagate drive are a good choice. IBM and Maxtor or two of the top performers. Fujitsu also makes an excellent drive. In my opinion the bang for the buck is with a Maxtor drive. When comparing benchmarks between an IBM drive and a Maxtor drive they are very comparable. In some instances the IBM comes out ahead and in others the Maxtor comes out ahead. Right now when looking at IBM and Maxtor drives, Maxtor maybe a little bit faster overall. They are less expensive, hence, the reason I say that is where your bang for the buck is. I would rate the companies I listed as such: IBM/Maxtor (Depends on the application.) Fujitsu/Seagate Western Digital As far as I remember Samsung makes a cheap drive and you get what you pay for. None of the other companies I make reference to make a drive that I would not really recommend, right now. That could change at anytime. Here is a decent and recent review on some hard drives: http://www4.tomshardware.com/storage...905/index.html You can also check out http://www.xbitlabs.com, http://www.storagereview.com, http://www.adandtech.com.

| I have heard nothing but good things regarding IBM drives, unfortunately I have never owned one so I can't speak from experience. I live and die by Seagate. I have 2 Seagate drives and they have been rock solid. One is about 4 years old and the other is just over a year old.

| Seagte is an excellent choice. My ratings are purely based on overall performance. I would have to say that they all have excellent reliablity. There is always the chance for failure, it just depends on when it is your turn. There is a thread somewhere in the Drives and Controllers section about problems with IBM drives. Have a look at. I would still recommend an IBM drive though.

| I would say Maxtor DiamondMax Plus and Maxtor Fireball AS. Both are 7200 RPM ATA 100 HDD. They can pass FSB 166, as that is what my memory can handle. I think anything above FSB 170 MHz will eventually blow your PCI card (NIC & Soundcard). IBM is also good. Make sure you get the 7200 RPM for HDD, do not settle for les than that RPM.

IMHO it's best to stay away from IBM IDE's for awhile: http://www.theinquirer.net/02090103.htm http://www.anandtech.com/guides/viewfaq.html?i=71 The WDxxxBB (WesternDigital) are excellent. Fast, quiet and cool. I hear good things about the Seagate Baracuda IV but no personal experience. | |

| I use both Maxtor and IBm disks, My Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 60GB i really nice and a lot quieter than my IBM harddisk and seem to run less hot than my IBM 22 GXP, but newer had any broblem with either of the two brands..... Just keep away from Quantum they really suck when you OC, Had one of the newer 40Gig fireball LM's 2 months ago, very noisy and i couldnt run it at fsb 152 without loosing data all the time. so returned it for a Maxtor.

http://www.realworldtech.com/page.cf...WT090401024044 While there's no problem running at FSB 170 MHz and above in the shorter period, I would not suggest you run at that high FSB 170 MHz & above for a longer period of usage time. It will ruin your hardwares, especially PCI cards (and some HDD too) in the long run, eventually. Ozzie told me that he had problem when trying to run at FSB above 166 on his Iwill KK266-R. He got his AGP video card burnt at that time, when trying to run at that high FSB, after running it several times. Ofcourse, I would be glad if I can run at FSB 170 & above without destroying any hardwares (depending of hardware quality), but from what I have observed, I am not interested to run at FSB above 166 for the longer period of time, because on average, most hardware are not built to cope with that high FSB. In my opinion, the safest & highest zone is at FSB 166 MHz. Anything above that .... hmmm .... try it yourself (if you dare & if your hardwares can handle it) for a longer period of usage time to find out !!

| I've got to 18.2 Seagate Cheetahs. Very fast, not too loud. I don't know how the IDE ones perform, but the SCSIs are excellent.
