| I just replaced Win98SE with W2K (clean install) and everything seems to work just fine except for my HP Colorado 8GB internal tape drive. W2K will sometimes see it as "Colorado 8GB" but when I reboot it may come up Colorado9 mv, Colorado ,GB, etc I can not get it to work right. I have downloaded all the W2k files, patches, drivers from HP but still no luck. Just wondering if anybody else has had this problem. I think it may be an issue with the Tape drive and the Intel 815E IDE drivers. Help! I have alot of business files backed up on tape. |

| Sorry nobody has helped you yet RDLouks - I'll give you a bump. I'm not familiar with that drive...does it come with a controller card? If not, have you tried moving it between master/slave positions on different ide channels? Does it have jumpers on the back? Try cable select if it does... It sounds like you have a driver problem or conflict somewhere. Then again - if it worked in 98 you could set up a dual boot and use it in 98...

| Thanks for the tips. It does not come with its own controller card, I have tried it on the primary & secondary, Master & Slave. I have not tried "cable select" yet. I do beleive it is either a W2k driver issue or a compatibility issue with the 815 chipset/IDE. I am going to try installing a PCI IDE card & try it. |

| Hey RDLouks, didn't you also register last year on the original forums?? Just seems to ring a bell with me. If so, welcome back and if not, welcome to this messageboard. I tried a search for you on the HP support pages but couldn't come up with anything. Do you use the latest firmware version? I also noticed they upgraded their W2K software on the 18th of may. It includes new drivers. I would try that too. >>>oops. Just read you allready D/L and tried all the newer drivers and software.

| That drive has problems all of it's own in WIN98 the problems were initially all related to the Windows Backup installed in the Windows software...major conflicts...then HP released newer drivers verson 7.0 I believe and the drive worked much better in WIN 98...I personally spent more time on the phone with HP support soncerning that drive than any ohter product I have ever had. HP said more times than not that the drive was designed originally to work only in DOS and later WIN 95 and from what I understand it functions flawlessly in both...I couldn't ever get any sense of reliability in either WIN 98 or WIN ME...unfortunately I never tried 2000...got a second hard drive and CD Burner instead...the HP Knowledge base is crammed full of stories and fixes about this whole series of drives. Good luck and let me know if you find a fix...Mine's been in the closet on a shelf for about a year now!

| Thanks for all the tips. Just for the sake of arguement I installed the drive in another PC that is running W2k with the Intel 820 chipset, booted the PC Windows found it with no problem and did a complete backup without a glitch. So I can't help but assume that it has to be something to do with either the 815 chipset or my Asus mainboard. (the 820 is a Dell) Yes SubZero I am the same one, and thank you for the welcome back. |
