finally was able to run the HD Tune 'Write' benchmarks as they are not able to run on the same drive you have the OS installed on...pretty outstanding results especially in comparison to this review and his analysis of what the benchmark numbers represent...

I ran the G.Skill Wiper program a few minutes ago...works fine, no issues...I'm going to be doing another erase of my SSD as I want to benchmark it with no OS installed as I heard it can give better results without the OS overhead

I tried using HDDErase to wipe the drive back to like new condition but it was not compatible with my motherboard and I could not launch the program...I tried Diskpart and that works fine
HDerase run as administrator.....firmware upgrades need to be in IDE mode.

G.Skill finally made a comment today regarding the new firmware (1711)...

"as we tested, there is still some issue with the unreleased firmware
so, we'd prefer to anounce a better and more stable version of firmware to improve our SSD products

Thanks"

Re: my new G.Skill Falcon SSD

If I had to guess I'd say G.Skill FW is the same as OCZ.
But I would NOT FLASH OCZ FW to G. Skill, as I could be wrong!!!!
OCZ is beta and their having problems keeping TRIM and GC separate.
As for me the beta 141b is fine, also we were given away to turn off and on TRIM in regedit....
Everything is to be fixed in the final release of FW.

I don't mind waiting for the new firmware from G.Skill...I'd rather have them put out a nice stable FW with no major bugs rather then rush out a buggy version just to compete with OCZ or SuperTalent...plus performance using the 1571 firmware has been great

and no I won't be flashing my Falcon SSD with OCZ firmware

Re: my new G.Skill Falcon SSD

I hear ya and I think I'd do likewise if I had a G.Skill SSD.
Your drive is plenty fast as is.....

Thanks for the read...
I'll be glad when OCZ final FW with TRIM is out...

looks like both OCZ and Supertalent removed the new (beta) firmware 1711 from their sites because there were some problems with data corruption

looks like G.Skill did the right thing by waiting until the bugs were worked out before releasing the firmware

Re: my new G.Skill Falcon SSD

Retract my sentence....
OCZ did give out a way to turn off and on TRIM.
I have it off, and no data corruption in newest beta FW 142B.

Re: my new G.Skill Falcon SSD

I Don't mind being a beta tester for OCZ.
We know when testing this new BETA FW to back up your data.
They do need testers, to work out a really good FW.
Its really like being a part of SSD history.
My W-7 is all for testing and oc'ing.
I keep my critical data on an external HD...

This is the answear I got from G.Skill reguarding the new Firmware update and compatibility with Raid0.

Dear Customer

The wiper program can be used in any configuration, but at the same time we are working on a new firmware that will be much better so once that is released it should be much improved from what it is now.

Thank you

hopefully this means adding a Garbage Collection feature as well as RAID compatibility...I don't mind waiting a few extra weeks as long as we get a polished final product...plus the 1571 firmware works fine for now...seems like the 'other' manufacturers are always rushing out new firmware which might not be tested as thoroughly as it should be

I'm also hearing that the new firmware will not be using the jumper flash method and might not destroy all data on the drive when flashing

EDIT: that answer they gave you sounds as though Wiper can currently be used even on RAID setups

That is what I was thinking too. Will try when I have a few minutes tomorrow.
