I am lost on how to connect the 2 drives with a IBM ATA/100 HDD.I am new to building and want to get my system setup right the first time. Would putting the IBM as master and cdrom as slave on primary ide and Plextor CDRW as master on secondary ide the best way ?? Also if I ever needed to boot from cdrom, would this work as being the slave to the hard drive on the same channel ???? Thanks for any ideas or help, Steve

Since you most likely will be copying from your CD-R/CD-RW to your HDD most of the time, try the following arrangement: 80-wire cables on both controllers (need to get a 2nd 80-wire cable, only one supplied with MB) Prim. master: IBM Prim. slave: none Sec. master: CD-R Sec. slave: CD-RW I have mine set up as follows with no problems. Master IDE1: Maxtor 30GB (udma 5) Slave IDE1: None Master IDE2: Pioneer 106S DVD (udma 4) Slave IDE2: Plextor 12/10/32A (udma2, hacked)

Thanks, blt How do I hack the Plexwriter?I have heard of doing this, but not sure how to go about it. The 2ond 40 pin 80 conductor is no problem since I got one with the mobo and also one with my ibm ata/100 7200 harddrive. Also you think the cdrom as master and cdrw as slave on secondary IDE is best,or would the cdrw as master and cdrom as slave be any better?Does it really make a differance? Thanks again for your help, Steve

You jumper the two unused pins next to the "digital audio out" on the back of the drive. See post by Mushkin Rules below on overclocking the Plextor Based Engine CD-RW. Has some links you may want to read. Be advised, this WILL void your warranty.
