Rampage ii gene esata

Anyone have the Rampage II Gene and are using the ESATA port? I am wondering if the hot plug and port multiplier functions work with the onboard JMB363 chip.

I currently have a SIL3132 host controller board and an Addonics AD5SAPM 5 port multiplier card in an external drive bay. I have a SATA Bluray drive on channel 0 and 4 hot plug hard drives in removable drive bays on the rest of the channels. I plug in the hard drives whenever I need them - recording movies, TV, etc, and am not running them all of the time.

Any info would be appreciated!

Well, just in case someone else needs to know, the JMB363 chip supports hot plug. I set it up as AHCI in the bios, but had to use a third party software called Hotswap!.

Re: Rampage ii gene esata

AHCI won't work in RAID only single drives'
JMB363 chip will work with RAID/e-SATA.
But to reiterate not AHCI.....

Skully,

I don't understand. How does AHCI mode work? I thought you had to enable it in order for the advanced options such as hot swap, etc. as well as RAID to work.

AHCI, RAID, IDE....and AHCI...IDE...work only with single drives.
JMB363 controller chip in IDE mode or AHCI will work along with a RAID controller.
But when I use AHCI mode on the JMB363 controller chip the e-SATA drive is not reconized.
JMB363 controller chip in IDE mode e-SATA drive is reconized.
Why it works this way, I don't know..
Maybe e-SATA, or the JMB363 controller chip
RAID only works in Raid...ya turn on RAID in the bios.
Its late here half a sleep me/hope I didn't confuse ya.

Mine works in AHCI mode with single drives being picked up. I am going through a SIL3132 PM card - might be the difference?

Re: Rampage ii gene esata

Oops, should have read my original post. The drives are connected to a AD5SAPM 5 port multiplier card which is connected to the JMB363 ESATA port. All 5 devices are picked up as single drives and all are hot pluggable - with the HOTSWAP! software.
