| SSD performance - looking good An interesting review over here of some SSD drives. These are really looking very attractive in terms of performance now. Once the price drops I expect we'll see the end of the mechanical hard disk drive, which will be a bit of a milestone.

| Re: SSD performance - looking good What would be heavenly is if Intel made their SLC drive at least 256GB and less than $300. I would probably fork over the bills. Since SSD's are small capacity they are considered for RAID to. Yes, as soon as the price comes down first, mechanical HD's are going to disappear quickly. SSD's are much better is speed, size, durability, power consumption (this will get better as memory chips get smaller). |

| Re: SSD performance - looking good I was playing with an Asus Eee pc and it was very different using XP without the familiar tick tick tick sound of a hard drive actuator arm moving about... but I could see myself getting used to the silent operation...

| Re: SSD performance - looking good 20 sec? I'm teetering, but think I'll wait another 6 mos. before upgrading my OS drive from the VR RAID setup I'm using now. I'd really like to upgrade my MacBook to SSD - but will need at least a 250GB drive, so that one will likely be another year. Prices can only come down.

| Re: SSD performance - looking good Skully, you mean 20 minute INSTALL?? I think that's where he got confused, thinking you meant 20 seconds from power-on to desktop. |
