Question Weird burner message..anyone have a clue?

I have my burner paired up with my other cd-rom ( burner as master.. ) and my hard drive ( ata-100 ) is with my zip drive. Now with nero i keep getting this message that says that my burner shouldnt be on the same cable as my cd-rom....now its been about 50/50..some people say switch the burner to be with my zip drive...the others say leave it the way it is. Who is right..who is wrong?

Hi Zombie,

It's not a question of right or wrong. Depends on how you use the devices. Nero is warning you that if the CD drives are on the same channel you may have problems copying discs "on the fly" from CD to CDRW. You can still copy discs reliably but you may need to create an image file on the hard drive which takes a little longer.

If you switch the zip and the CD-ROM (CD-ROM as slave to HDD and Zip as slave to CDRW) copying on the fly will work better. But copying files to your HDD from the CD-ROM will slow down a bit.

Set it up to take advantage of what you do the most with your system. Another alternative is to get a PCI IDE controller card like the Promise Ultra100. It would add two additional IDE channels so each drive could be master on its own channel thus optimizing performance in every situation.

Post back if you need more help or info and welcome to the forum!

Lightbulb hmmmm....

Well i guess i was kinda hoping to make cd's on the fly ... so i guess it's gonna be paired with the zip. So if i pair the burner with the zip drive and the hd with the cd-rom....will it slow down my hd any?
