| * What? slows down SSD's * Here is a very good read @ Tom's Hardware on what slows down SSD's. Here's the link..... Does Power-Saving Technology Kill SSD Performance? : Flash SSDs Can Suffer From Power Saving Features - Review Tom's Hardware

| Re: * What? slows down SSD's * I saw that article earlier and remember being duly impressed by the performanc of SSD... yet again. I think an SSD makes a lot of sense for a game data drive, and maybe multi-media drive, where data is mostly added to the drive rather than deleted off it. I have a dedicated disk which I use only for installing my games. It has a capacity of 500GB which I find to be fine for the games I will be running at any given time. What I've found is that I tend to install (ie write) games onto the drive and then they sit there for months. I rarely uninstall them. An SSD would provide fantastic performance during game data loads (always a slow frustrating delay when gaming). The life of the drive should be optimum given that I dont re-write those blocks very often. However for the OS file system I have concerns about performance over the medium term given all those writes and re-writes. I typically use a disk for 3 years and dont know how an SSD would fare over that period of time with all those 100,000's of updates. Also the write performance needs to be good for that purpose as well, obviously.

| Re: * What? slows down SSD's * I do enjoy fast load times with games.... Its going to be interesting to see how well SSD's hold up. And how long lived these drives are.
