depends which motherboard you purchased...based on that you can determine what memory will fit in the board (dual channel, triple channel etc)

Re: Help with memory for my motherboard, please!

I took a look at that mobo part number and description at the "famous auction site." I suspect the reason that the ECS website, and other potential sources of information on it, don't list the -M4 is that it was specifically manufactured for sale as part of certain NEC computers.

Looking at the memory specs listed in the auction item description, it is specified for DDR2-533 or DDR2-667 memory. Memory these days is very cheap, and I suggest that you consider purchasing either 2gB or 4gB of DDR2-667, from among these selections at NewEgg:

Newegg.com - Computer Hardware,Memory,Desktop Memory,240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM,DDR2 667 (PC2 5300),1.8V,

I suggest that whichever total memory size you choose, purchase memory modules which will provide that capacity with 2 memory modules, rather than 4. In other words, 2 x 1gB, or 2 x 2gB. Some mobos have difficulty supporting some memories when 4 modules are used.

Crucial and Corsair are excellent brands, as are some of the others listed at the link I provided. Chances are any of them will work fine, but it would be a good idea to scan through the user comments at NewEgg about any of the choices you are considering. I wouldn't worry about the cautionary note in the mobo item description, "Warning: Not all memory configuration qualified," that probably just means that some brands were not tested by ECS with that mobo. And if you do have problems, just back off slightly on the memory timings (latencies) in the bios settings, and I think you'll be fine.

And welcome to ABX Zone!

Regards,
-- Al

Crucial has a little programming that can look up your motherboard and suggest the proper ram that you will need.

I suspect it would be worthwhile trying the drivers for the M3 board; it seems very conceivable to me that they might work ok on the M4 as well:

I agree with Ctal but keep in mind that the BIOS maybe different on your MOBO.

Also might dig around the NEC support site for info about this MOBO. Heres the NEC pc site
NEC Computers

As far as RAM basically if you stay with the name brands like Corsair, Crucial you usually can't go wrong.

Using Newegg as a source they carry most of the name brands at very good prices service is great.

I am not affiliated with Newegg just have had good success buying from them for several year.
