3Com WL-560 wifi bridge issues afte new firmware

I just got a working 3Com WL-560 ( 3CRWE675075 )

And loaded the latest firmware as 3Com advises , firmware loaded successfully,
the bridge asked to reboot , I agreed , and then booted again.

After the login page (admin) , it shows a screen asking to select my country.

But there is no country selections , the fields are blank ...
And I have stack !!
I can not continue to configure the working bridge !!

I have contact 3Com for an advice today.
I have contact an ebay seller who has this item for sale , begging for a copy of the CD of it .... who knows maybe it has something in it that could help ?

I do not know what to do , hard reset does not help , try it all ready.
The bridge is not covered by warranty ..

I found that by editing the page of the 3com web interface,
I can repair the missing html code , but the edited copy , that i made works locally, it does not send the selection at the bridge so to get what it asks.

Its a confusing story , but the bottom line is that this bridge needs to be re flashed some how , and I have no control of the web interface , for the reasons above.

Are any other tips , that I could try ?

Thanks in advance ..

Re: 3Com WL-560 wifi bridge issues afte new firmware

Ok I got more to it , by my own determination.

By examining the Widman setup ( 3com software ) , I found that it uses Telnet to communicate with the bridge.

Did some Google search for basic Telnet commands and here we are ..

Telnet

Open 192.168.1.2

3Com WWB login:

admin

Password:

3COM Wireless Bridge Rev 2.1.22
3Com WWB wlan1 (Country code not set, Type 'SET COUNTRYCODE' for detail) ->

set countrycode

Available Countries:
DB - DEBUG

3Com WWB wlan1 (Country code not set, Type 'SET COUNTRYCODE' for detail) ->

set country code ?

wlan1: Hardware setting does not allow this Country Code
wlan1: Available Countries:
DB - DEBUG
Too many parameters!

3Com WWB wlan1 (Country code not set, Type 'SET COUNTRYCODE' for detail) ->

If i type help , I get full listing of all the commands that the switch can show .

But the bad is that I can use them in Read mode ....

Example ....

3COM Wireless Bridge Rev 2.1.22

Talking Re: 3Com WL-560 wifi bridge issues afte new firmware

I have managed to repair it, by my self .

It was not easy ... It did not get fixed by an automated way !!

The way that I followed, its not an orthodox way .. and was costly to me .
If some one ever gets in the same position like me , by my directions he will save cash and trouble .

1) I had to buy and another one WL-560 ..

2)From the working WEB interface of the healthy one ,
I made a bookmark of the firmware update page of it .
3COM Web Interface http://192.168.1.2/upgrade.htm
The IP does not matter , set even the default , the page title matters .
( by making the link to work on your IP , you do not need to buy another WL-560 !! )

3) Remove the good one and connect the one who needs firmware .

4) If you have the original 3Com CD that came with the device,
Install the 3CDaemon utility , if you do not have the CD Google about 3cdv2r10.zip

5) Install the software .
The software looks complicate , but all that you have to set is the files folder that this software will use .
This software are an TFTP server ..

What it does, are to help file transfers and firmware updates , by pushing the files to the target box .

I will explain at this spot of what I am talking about .

By powering up the damaged device I was stack at the country code selection.

By using the bookmark ( after the log in ) that I had speak about above , I managed to navigate directly at the specific page, that I can activate the firmware update process .

There is three options to supply the file ( firmware ) on the Device .
1) By FTP (I do not have any FTP server )
2) By TFTP ( The 3CDaemon utility its an TFTP Server )
3) By HTML link ( locating the file on your drive )

My first choice as soon I got that far (managed to navigate in to firmware update page) ,
was to use the HTML way ( locating the file on your drive ), so to load the American firmware back ( NH_v2_1_22_SH.img ) ,
as totally compatible .

The firmware update process looked that it started ( The WEB interface said so ), the file did not loaded at all , and the upgrade was just hang .
With out to actually even starting in praxis .

Then started to explore the 3CDaemon utility (TFTP Server) ,
found this old 3Com Link , explaining of how to use the software,
to upgrade firmware of routers !!

Upgrading Your OfficeConnect Remote Access Router

I followed the directions .... setting as default file folder, at the TFTP Server,
the file folder that I had the firmware in it .

By running the TFTP Server in a opened window , you have in front of your eyes the information of it IP address .
In my case it run at 192.168.1.69 ( so you know where it is )

Now lets go back to 3COM Web Interface .

http://192.168.1.2/upgrade.htm

At this page we select the TFTP Server choice .

All that we have to do is to add the TFTP Server IP : ( 192.168.1.69)
and the file name : ( NH_v2_1_22_SH.img )
And click upgrade !!

The process started immediately ... flashing leds on my network traffic
I got the same Firmware update confirmation page that looks dead ,
but the traffic on my network switch , convinced me that something was going on !!

After 20 dramatic seconds , I got the amazing page with title ..
Your firmware update finished successfully .. Please Reboot

I did that , and it booted , logged in , country was set as US , and soon it loaded the complete Web Interface ..

All the neighborhood listen my screams of joy , some though that I am a wako or something ..

The truth is that I do not care , I have WIN ..

Now, if you get in my position , you know the way out .

Its sad that 3Com gives for free all this tools , and does not offer simple directions of how to use them .

By the other hand, in this specific case , the 3Com tools did not do the job by them selfs , some cunning needed too . ( call it Greek way )

If you save your self with my advices , drink a Beer to my name . ( Kiriakos )
Thats my reward from your part ..

I have now two fully working WL-560 bridges , that works problems free.
Goodbye Linksys WET54 V3 , turned to be troublesome and unstable from the start.

Re: 3Com WL-560 wifi bridge issues afte new firmware

Just updated and the firmware from the second device , that got from US too,
in order to help me , to solve the puzzle .

Here is a web link of the picture , of the interface it self .

http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/1324/wl560weblook.jpg

I do no post it as image , because its a bit large in resolution.

Its amazing how well works this bridge , 48 hours on operation, no reboots no issues .
