| Are all the Linksys Gigabit switches loud? I have the SD2008 and the fan is about as loud as my old computer with two 80mm case fans and an air cooled cpu and video card. I contacted Linksys and they said the switch was defective and to send it back. I have seen other reviews mentioning the rather loud fan, so I doubt a new one would be better. Does anyone have a Linksys gigabit switch that is not very loud? If not, can anyone recommend one with at least 8 ports that is quiet or silent?

| I have one, and the fan is somewhat loud, but not objectionable. I assume it is a high flow fan because the switch does get a little hot, and that's the reason it is noisy, particularly considering that it a rather small diameter fan, so it must rev pretty high. |

My 16-port GigE switch is using passive cooling and is very quiet. It also is very cool to the touch-it does not get super hot. http://www1.us.dell.com/content/prod...=04&l=en&s=bsd | |

| Quick update: I opened the switch the other day. The front pops off, allowing the top and bottom to slide apart. Inside are two Sunon 40mm fans blowing on naked chips (no heatsinks at all). The chips were not even warm to touch so i just unplugged the fans. Ahh, sweet silence. I will either get a couple heatsinks, replace the fans with something quiter, or just slow them down. The fans are relatively high output fans (6500rpm, 30 dB). Those darn things are louder than all three PCs in my network put together! It seems to me that if they really thought it would need cooling they would at least paste a couple heatsinks in there.

| Another update for any that have a Linksys Gigabit switch. Without the fans running, the switch was getting quite hot. So, I replaced the Sunon 30 dB fans with 21 dB fans. Now it pretty quiet and the exchange only cost me $9.00 and about 15 minutes.
