| dsl expectations Have High speed cable and just recently had a DSL line installed. The Dsl is a high speed plus line(up to>5mbps-down,680kbps-up).Now when pinging game servers(sof2,bf42,vietnam,Cod,etc...)my ping has decreased by approx 50-60,well that kinda P's me off.Am I expecting to much from Dsl?Thought that it would at least be equal to or close to my cable at least for gaming. It is faster d-loading,surfing and you receive alot less lag but just doesnt seem quick as it should be when gaming. Ah maybe I'm being to damn picky? What are your preferences for gaming?

| What normal ping would you say you were getting with cable, and what are you getting now w/ DSL? I have 3mbit DSL, and just doing a ping through the Windows command line to with various sites, I get: yahoo.com - 76ms google.com - 91ms abxzone.com - 93ms I know ping values have a lot to do with geographical location, but if yours are significantly higher than that, I would suspect a problem with your DSL modem.

| Your ping got worse - that would be an increase, not a decrease. Terminology aside, the difference has nothing to do with DSL vs. cable. The two providers will have different routes to the gaming server and obviously the DSL provider's route is slower. Try running a tracert to your destination - that will give you an idea which hop is slowing things down. There may not be anything you can do about it, but it would at least allow you to determine if it's an issue with your provider or something beyond their control. Endaar
