Losing LAN connectiuon

HI,

I have a new Asus P5Q3 mobo and I am having trouble keeping a LAN connection.

It has the built in Realtek 8168c(p)8111c(p) connection with the driver 5.706.925.2008 Date 9-25-2008.

I have just loaded XP Pro with SP2 and it was connected or I couldn't do that, then I upgraded the latest MS updates and now it says Limited Status and I can't get anywhere. No net or LAN.

I am connected to the net via a LAN hub into a ROUTER GATEWAY into a cable.

The IP is 169. etc when it should be 192.168.1.? through DHCP MShome.

All other boxes work and this did as well, so maybe there is a XP undate issue.

Can anyone help me please?

Thanks

Re: Losing LAN connectiuon

The 169 address is a default address used when the computer is unable to obtain the proper address via dhcp.

I'd suggest going to "Network Connections" in the Windows Control Panel (or by right-clicking on the lan icon, if present, in the lower right corner of your screen), then right-clicking on the icon for the Realtek port, and examining all of the settings under "status" and "properties," as well as trying the "repair" option.

In particular, under "properties," select "internet protocol" and then the "properties button" near it, and make sure that "obtain an ip address automatically" is selected.

Regards,
-- Al
