Re: My Computer Home Network Issues

On the old install, you could go to network connections and remove both of them and try reinstalling them.

Unfortunately I have already tried that, to no avail.

Re: My Computer Home Network Issues

I had an issue once where a bluetooth would not work no matter what I did with uninstalling drivers. The only solutions was an Xp reinstall. This may be true in your case.

I really hate it when that is the only solution...

Re: My Computer Home Network Issues

I would disconnect both network cables, use device manager to remove both network adapters and drivers, reboot, allow Windows to find the network adapters (you may want to install the drivers manually), connect one cable and recheck your performance.

I agree that there is no benefit to you in using both connections. Keep it simple with one.

I guess I just assumed that I didn't have to say I rebooted.

I have not tried to install the drivers manually, as Windows always finds the missing items and installs them automatically upon rebooting.

I will try to uninstall, and manually reinstall, then reboot.

Re: My Computer Home Network Issues

***The following is nothing but PURE SPECULATION (fiction, if you will). I have NO expert's knowledge as to how networks or TCP/IP works at a low level. This was just the reasoning I reached that convinced me a few years ago to stop trying to use 2 different ethernet ports on the same LAN.***

Think of it from another computer's point of view. Your PC is computer X and mine is Y. Let's say I have your data drive (D) mapped. I want to send an mp3 file to your data drive so that it can be stored there and served to my network-capable stereo system. So I open mapped drive D in explorer (which likely takes longer than it should). I try to copy the file. Unfortunately, I have the drive mapped using your Windows computer name. The problem is that there are two ports that respond to that name. My computer has absolutely no way of figuring out which IP to send it to as both will be responding to its communications. So my own network connection is having one hell of a time negotiating a connection. Eventually some snippets of the mp3 I want to send do start making their way to the D drive and getting stored there. Problem is that these connections need to be negotiated with each and every packet that is sent. Thus taking a HUGE amount of time and increasing network load exponentially.

I'm sure this doesn't line up with how things actually happen on a technical level, but it became my reason for dropping the second NIC and it DID solve all the problems I'd had at the time.

As they say: K.I.S.S.

Re: My Computer Home Network Issues

That's all fine and dandy, but as I am sure you have read multiple times in my previous posts, removing a line does not solve my problem.

This thread is not about whether or not you think my second line in my computer is relevant, it is about correction the lack of upload problem I am having.

Thank you for the information, and let's try to solve the problem at hand.

Re: My Computer Home Network Issues

We're trying to help you by keeping it simple. It makes things easier to solve when you can eliminate items from the equation. And yes, we all understand that you've tried it with one connection at at time. Removing that extra connection is one step in the troubleshooting process. It might also help to remove all other devices from your network and trying again. Once that proves to be full speed, add one component at a time until the problem returns.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that since we don't have access to actual configuration and data we're sort of flying blind. We need you to help us to help you.

Hang in there and we'll get it.

Re: My Computer Home Network Issues

Rick_EE had it!
I downloaded the EVGA nVidia Ethernet drivers, and installed them manually, and everything now works!!

BTW zsaz, just anf FYI, I found out that when a computer had more than one LAN port to use, it divides up the work appropriately. For example, my computer uses one LAN port for networking, and the other for internet. This way the one doesn't interfere with the performance of the other. Right now I am copying a whole boatload of stuff across the network to my makeshift server, and it is useing one local area connection. Surfing the internet is using the other local area connection.

Glad you got it all working out!

Re: My Computer Home Network Issues

Hate to bring up dead threads but were your nics teamed using the Nvidia software? The only times to have two nics connected is if theyre connected to two different networks or are part of a team. Network switches do no like that, what it sounds like to me is that you were in a L2 bridging loop.
