Wireless b,g,n -antenna, where can I find one? (increase of router range)

Hey!

I just bought a D-Link DIR-655, awesome router, but I have it in a drawer so the WLAN gets slow and range isn't as good as I'd like it to be. So I've been on the hunt for antennas that would increase the range of the DIR-655. I found one antenna that d-link makes that would be perfect, however, it is not available in Sweden. (typical ) Other antennas I've found so far only support wireless b and g, not the n-draft. Any ideas on what I can use?

Link to D-Links product: D-Link ANT24-0230 Xtreme N 2.4GHz Antenna

Thanks!

Hey Belgareon!!! How you doin'? Good to see you posting!

I haven't gotten into wireless yet. I prefer the security of a CAT cable.

But the N wireless protocol does look like a good one. Good luck extending the range with yours.

Try ebay. A lot of sellers ship worldwide there. You might find the exact antenna you are after there.

Hey Traveler! Good to see you again! Long time no see! I am good thank you, how bout you?

Yeah, security of CAT cable is soo much better, and so much easier. This Wifi thing is pretty advanced, I remember the good old days when you just could plug in the CAT cable and then surf the net without problems. However in my household we have so many laptops and mediacenters allover that wifi has become a necessity.

I tried searching ebay for the antenna, but guess what, price for antenna is about 30$ and shipping is 35$, hardly worth buying. I think I might just wait to see if they finally get this product in Sweden too.

Take care!

If you do some googling there is a site that gives all the info for making for making your own parabolic ant.

As you found out hiding it in a drawer is not the best location. The higher up you can place it the better since radio waves tend to span out and down. That why radio towers are tall not only for distance but better coverage.

The dir 655 ( which I own ) comes with mounting screws to mount on the wall up high. Mine works great.

Hey! Thanks for your reply!

I've seen the guides on making your own antennas, and I like the ideas, they seem smart, however it doesn't look that good. I want all of my wiring and stuff to be hidden, cause cables look so ugly. That is the main reason why I have hidden my router. You can't see any trace of it.

I ended up buying the antenna via e-bay, it cost like 27$ and the shipping was 36$, not a very good deal, but I still think it was worth it. 63$ isn't a whole lot of money and I am prepared to pay that amount to get increased WLAN. Now I just hope it'll help. I read some reviews and it looks promising. People are pretty glad with their antennas.
